Just clocked the mileage I'm getting in the new Disco, and it's 15.75 per gallon in mostly rolling conditions (not a lot of stopping and going where I've been driving). It's about what I expected (I think the rating is 14/17), but anything reasonable to increase the mileage I wouldn't mind hearing about. Is a change in air filter worth doing? Is there any compelling reason besides mileage to change filters? After engine break-in, will my mileage change? Thanks for any input.

Your getting 15.75! Wow, I thought I was doing good at 12.2!

My first 2 tanks got about 13 mpg. I live in a city with hills plus it’s been very hot so the air has been running constantly since I got it. I hope as it breaks in, the mileage will improve a little. I take full responsibility for making the decision to buy a vehicle with low miles per gallon. However, I am also interested in what others have experienced especially with newer discos...

Mines a '95 with 103,000 miles. I live in Florida by the coast (read Flat here). The A/C runs full time and the biggest hill I climb is the bridge that goes to the beach. But, It's a Land Rover, so I look "cool" when I go. I have a friend that is on me all the time for having a "Gas Guzzling", "Non-environmentally freindly" vehicle. What can I say, I take my lumps.

for a series II, that is excellent mpg. on long hwy sprints it should eek up a bit to 17ish - in town stop and go it should drop to about 12... so you are doing just fine - though my guess is you are not driving the living piss out of it and still getting 15.75....

i find that a k&n will give you better mpg on the fwy - poorer round town (but throttle response is improved), the stock, better round town (slightly quiter) and slightly poorer on the fwy - i'm conducting some experiments on the matter and will post my findings when done

Well, sounds as if I'm doing pretty well mileage wise, especially as the a/c HAS been running non-stop since I got the truck, which I didn't think to mention. Steve, I'm really interested in hearing your K&N findings, that was what I was alluding to, having read some other old threads here. Mike, funny you should mention the "gas-guzzling" thing. Last weekend I nearly went to jail for throttling a couple of hypocrites I'm related to by marriage. If we shared actual DNA, I might have simply killed myself as a kind gesture to the future of mankind. ANYway, they looked over the new Disco and said, "We'd never buy an SUV, especially after what Dick Cheney said a couple weeks ago." I took the bait and asked what the hell they were referring to, and they said Cheney had said it was American's God given right to drive SUVs. That was enough for them to have a knee-jerk reaction and claim the "No SUVs" position. Trouble is, until 2 weeks prior they HAD an SUV, a Jeep GC they were leasing for the previous three YEARS! I actually thought they were pulling my leg, kinda like when I thought my dad was kidding when he said Professional Wrestling was real (He wasn't...hmmmmm, I might have to kill myself after all, come to think of it). Yes, I'm very environmentally aware, always have been. I do my small part as I can, but I feel no shame in driving my Disco. Everyone has to live by their own conscience and rules, but I'll be damned if I'm going to allow one comment from one asshole in Washington to spin my decision making. When Dick Cheney or anyone else for that matter checks in with ME to see what THEY should do in life, I'll consider reciprocity. Until then, don't puke up your new-found religion on me, especially when you're done with your SUV days and I've never had mine. I pay my own bills, gas and all the rest. I've driven 3 old VW's (great mileage), a Honda Civic, old style (about 45 mpg as I recall) and a Volvo that still gets 26 mpg. If it's my turn to suck gas, well, then it's my turn. Uh-oh....guess that was my hot button for the week!

I live in CO at an elevation of 7000 ft above sea level. My D1 gets between 15 and 16.5 Mpg in the city. As for highway traveling I am not too sure. When I do hit it it is to go off-roading. So, figure in highway with low range crawling. On those trips I will see 20 to 22 Mpg. I'm thinking that this number would go up by 5 or so if it where just highway driving. Just a thought!

Like I said before, I'm an adult, I fell in love with the Land Rover and figured I can live with the mileage whatever it gets. I still hope the mpg's go up as the truck breaks in but I take full responsibility so you will never hear me whining about the gas mileage!

Karen,

You go girl. You sound like my wife, LOL!! You never wanna play chicken with her when she's driving the Rover! She becomes the "evil one"!
