I am looking to replace my SG springs with the 3" RoverTym springs, I have been looking into a second pair of shocks. I like the Fox Shocks I have but I could use a cheap backup set. So, I ask all of you...which ones do you recommend? I am thinking about Rancho 9000 series...

thanks for your feedback

I have the 9000 series with 3" RT springs. I am happy with them. My only basis for comparison is stock, however.

Ask John at RoverTym what he thinks...he is very helpful.

I went with the RoverTym 2" springs and the RS9000 shocks from Rancho. I am pretty happy with the setup. In my opinion, the Ranchos give a lot of travel for a very economical price.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I am thinking of the same setup. Could you please elaborate on your spring/shock install ? Some impressions compared to a stock setup ? Do you have any additional weight (bumper, sliders etc) on your rig ?

Thanks.
Jay R.

I also have the Rancho 9000 long travel, I think they're great and have had no problems off-road. There are many different model #'s for them though so, check which one will be best for you. If you go with them I would strongly recommend getting the Rovertym shock mounts, very good!

I have the RoverTym 2" springs. I went with the Rancho 9027's in the front and 9234's in the back at John's suggestion (RoverTym). I replaced the rear upper shock mounts (but not the lower ones) using the RoverTym upper shock mounts. This was necessary to fit the 9234's in the rear (the size of the upper shock mount is different). Up front, the 9027's went on with no modifications. The Rancho 9000 shocks that I chose gave me an extra 5 to 6 inches of stretch. That doesn't sound like much, but trust me, it's a lot!

I also purchased the RoverTym Quiet Cones for the rear. I remove the anti-sway bar when I go off-roading which gives the Disco a lot of flex in the rear. I have not had much time to play with the flex up front, so I can't tell you much about it. I still have the front sway bars connected, so I don't really get any better flex.

I really like the way the vehicle handles on road as well as off-road. The increased height and flex really helps get me though stuff that stock discos can't. The RS9000 shocks are very easy to adjust to suit individual tastes.

Installation was time consuming, but not difficult. Just a lot of stuff to bolt and unbolt. The key is a good helper, the right tools (listed on the website), and a lot of patience. There is a write-up on this website that explains the spring and shock install very well.

I did the shock and spring install before making any other modifications and drove it 1,000+ miles to get used to how it handled. Then I put on the SafariGard bumper, skid plate, and SuperWinch X9 winch. I have not really noticed any difference with the way it handles with the new bumper on. The front does sit a little lower now.

I have not purchased longer brake lines, but I probably should. If I lift both back wheels off the ground, the brake lines are stretched really tight (like when I get high centered). I will also look into re-routing the ABS brake sensors to give them a little more stretch.

If you have any questions, please email me.

is there any shock that I can mount on the rear w/out dif. rear upper shock mount?and will still provide the added length that I need? and when you say (9027) is that the specific part # for the shock?

In theory no. You will either need different upper shock mounts or longer bump stops. Upper shock mounts are not that exspensive in the grand scheme of things.
