Hello,
Just bought a 21' Airstream with a loaded weight of 4500 pounds. Do any of you tow with a transmission cooler? Is a tranny cooler necessary?
Thanks!
Todd

You already have one!

I would put in a trans temp gauge and keep a close eye in the temp. It may only weigh 4500 lbs but it is a huge box.

Yes you already have one incorporated in with your rad but it is alway's good to put one aftermarket tran's oil cooler when towing. mount it infront of the rad and simply use a tubing cutter to cut the trans lines and the plumb the new cooler into the system. Not only will it lower the temp of your fluid but will help with the life of your trans., and also when towing it will help with keeping your engine coolent temp down because the rad will not have as much heat to try to dissapate.

Where is (or is there) a removable lug for a temp guage sender on a 95 disco 5 speed trainy???

5 speed Slider? You can get a stick on thermistor or one that replaces the drain plug. Not much of a need to monitor temp on a manual box.

I the trans cooler integrated into the radiator? or is it the same as the little one on a D90?
Slider, if you don't find out from someone else sooner, I can scan you a page out of my service manual when I get home on Friday, with a location for a temp sender.

I've thought about this too. Discoman, are you saying cut the tubing and put like a T fitting w/ the open end going to the new cooler? Or are you saying just bypass the current setup and run an aftermarket cooler? Sorry for the stupid question, I'm just not real familiar w/ those things.
Todd, how does that thing pull the trailer? I've found my truck doesn't even like pulling my waverunner's over hills, is it pretty slow going w/ that big of a trailer?
