I'm keeping the stock tape deck (I like the look and use "books on tape") and am looking into buying a portable MP3 player w/ tape adapter for tunage (can hold most of our CD collection and not really effected by off-road driving).

First upgrade planed is new speakers in the doors and rear pillars. I've read that the stock radios connect to one external amp for main speakers and a second external amp for the subs, so my next radio upgrade will be to swap the main amp out for something a little beefier (no reason to do this until the speakers are set first). Finally, I'm designing a new rear door pannel to hold some gear and a better sub box. I'm looking to put a single 8" or 10" sealed box back there. I had a similar setup (except the MP3) in a Bronco II about six or seven years back. The B-II is smaller but still a similar body shape/size (important for low freqs)w/ similar glass dimensions (big factor in your high freqs)and it was very sweet.

Of course, all music upgrades come AFTER the 4x4 upgrades (except the speakers, which are in need of replacement soon).

I have just finshed mine. I put the new Alpine 1005 monitor in with their DVD and DTS proccesor. I found that the Boston Pro Fit very well in the doors. I also put their 6in mids In the back sub panel for mid bass and Two Infinity Perfects 10 in for my lows. I have never been happier with music and movies. Hope this helps.

I have a Sony head, Rockford 360 for my 12 inch dual voice coil Rockford sub fiberglassed int the rear passenger storage bin, 6.5 Clarion lcd in the center console, Apex dvd under front passenger seat.Use the hi-pass filter on my head unit for now, only amp is on the sub running one channel to each voice coil. I reccomend pulling both side panels in the rear and door and applying dynamat. Helps with road noise from tires and "stiffens" up your resonant frequencies. While your at it run single 4 or 2 gauge wire to a distribution block so you can hook up a power inverter. Mine is above my amp and stiffening capacitor in the drivers side storage bin. Use your bins or back door for subs so you still have adequate loading space all the time.

I had a new sound system installed earlier this summer after drowning my stock amp and CD changer.

Here is what I went with, and it sounds great, and is LOUD when turned up all the way .

Kenwood in-dash CD (sounds great, skips a little more than I would like)
MBquart speakers and tweets in front, using stock grilles.
MBQuart speakers in E pillars
Kicker 10" sub in back door in custom enclosure (the entire rear door panel is custom built out of 1/2" plywood, covered with carpeting that matches the disco interior carpeting, sealed with dynomat. 100% more solid than it ever was stock!
Xtant 3 channel amp in drivers side rear cargo pocket, 100Wx2 + 200Wx1

Sub is driven off 200W channel from amp, rear speakers are driven off 45Wx2 output from head unit, front speakers are driven off 100Wx2 from amp.

Also got a yellow top battery (stereo draws quite a bit of power, so does the Husky10)

Sounds great, cost 1 arm and 2 legs, mostly for the custom door panel for rear door.

I got a Sony head unit with a 10disc changer. JBL speakers all around, Sony Xploder rear amp, Infinity Basslink (powered) subwoofer. Now if I only had the freakin time to install the sub... The sub is very compact and sounds great as compared to other larger box subs.

I used to swear by Infinity's but have really come to like the sound of MBQs over the last couple years. My musical tastes range from Judas Priest through Clanad right into Wagner, and Infinitys & MBQs each have a real good range in my ears.

Could you let me know specifically what size / model of MBQs you used in your door and pillars? I am going to put either 5.25 or 6.5 (w/ some work) in the front doors (either way will be w/ seperate tweet), and may put 5.25 2-way in back doors. My biggest concern is the rear pillars. I would like to put 6x9s in that local, but haven't looked into how much reworking would be needed on the pillars.

I replaced the stock speakers with MBQs, front and rear, left the stock tweeters. Now I have to beef-up the power to MBQs since they sound far better, but require far more power.

You can get Dynamat of different qualities at Best Buy or CC. Buy the roller and get a good heat gun at the Home De-pot to heat up the adhesive on the back and make it more pliable.
