Could use a little help if anyone has done this before. Rear passenger window fell down into the door. Upon viewing I realized that the small round plastic piece that runs along the track broke so it is no longer attached to the "window regulator" Land Rover says you have to replace then entire Regulator. That sounds like a lot of work and more expensive then replacing the little plastic piece. Has anyone done this or Jerry - rigged it?

Thanks,

Check the LR parts manual to see if this part is listed. If not then you may have to go for the whole regulator, which I believe is only about $70. It's a bear of a job though, as you can probably see...

I've only lost the drivers door regulator. It failed at the spot welds, so I don't recall the plastic piece you mention.

Hope this helps,

Tom P.

Or, try a junkyard and salvage a regulator.

How to switch them out? Remove the broken one,..... replace with the new one. :0)

Oldscout,

You are a prince. Could you also explain to me how to do a heart transplant?

my little plastic wheel is broken and has been for a year now.. i refuse to buy another regulator because it will still have the plastic wheels, which means i'll probably have to do the job over again.

someday when my 'to do' list gets down low enough i'm going to make a mission to replace that wheel with something made of metal. i realize that the track it rides in is a soft metal so you cant have anything too hard. otherwise you might end up having to replace the track rather than the wheel which seems like an even bigger bitch.

my main problem is my wheel broke and fell through the door. if i hade a nice drawing of exactly what the wheel looked like and dimensions, we'ed be all set. i think the main thing is that it hade a semi-rectangular bolt head counterbored into it which might be trickey.

that and how to reattatch it to the regulator arm, rivit it i guess.

Rob,
I too have suffered your same dilemma. The plastic track wheel in my window broke into only two pieces. I cleaned the pieces thoroughly and glued the pieces together around the rivet/pin on the regulator arm. I just used superglue and let it set overnight held together with wire. I removed the wire, lubed the wheel and window track and installed the regulator into the door. That was about a month ago and I haven't had any problems.
I agree that the design is pretty stupid. The only way to replace the plastic wheel is to grind off the pin where it has been flared, slip on a new wheel and tack weld the pin back into the hole in the regulator arm. Easy if you have access to a welder AND have a replacement wheel.
Since you already have a replacement regulator, just unbolt the old arm mechanism from the lifting motor and install the new arm being sure to align the gears. Just be sure to regrease the wheel and track for smooth operation.
Good luck,
CD

Finished the project this weekend. I have to say it was easier then I thought. 6 screws off and on. Probably took less then an hour. Whenever you get in the door I would reccomend picking up some extra "door tacks" I always seem to break 3-4 when taking the door off. Anyway thanks for everyone's help.
