I have a 97 Disco that spends most of it’s time in Colorado and I’m looking into Southdown’s products for rock protection. I’m mainly interested in their steering guard and front axle guard.

What kind of experiences have people had with these?
What do you like and don’t like about these products?
If you don’t like them can you suggest some alternatives?

Thanks for your input.

Look over on the left side....locate the folder titled Utilities....click on Keyword Search...

now type in Southdown...

Check out the reruns....

I personally thought about Southdown, but considered the shovel approach over the limit for me...

Have it - it's ok as far as design - not constrcuted well enough though (axle guard) - If I had it to do over - I'd just go with the RTE links and relocate the damper and get a GOOD diff guard.

like he said above check out all past posts as it was kicked around pretty thoroughly recently past.

My SD axle guard has paid for itself MANY times, esp when crossing muddy rivers/streams with submerged rocks. The degree of protection you're getting far outweighs the slight loss in clearance. IMHO it's plenty strong & the "sled" effect seems to help in mud & snow.

These experiences are in the North-East, so YMMV, etc.
