I know I have seen discussions about this before, but could someone let me know about the "shim" used to correct the rear door from rattling? It sounds like it is about to fall off! Thanks.

I'm about to replace shim, or wedge, on my back door, too. Near the latch is the wedge mechanism - silver metal receiver on doorframe and black composite wedge piece on door itself. The two mate together to hold door tight. You'll see that wedge has been worn away on lower edge (usually), and there is now play between wedge and receiver, thus the rattle. I've had a folded matchbook cover duct-taped onto the bottom of the receiver piece for a while, and it's been nice and quiet. I can provide this high-tech service to for you for only $1400 plus shop supplies (now I sound like the dealer).

I've had problems with my rear door since I bought my truck. Rattled, wouldn't open, leaked. Finnally this past weekend I took the door and lock/latch assembly apart. I cleaned and greased all of the componets and added an extra return "helper" spring to the latch. I also moved the wedge, bolt, and latch (all are adjustable). I didn't replace anything and now I have no rattles and no leaks. I'd try adjusting things first . . . it's cheaper.
