I don't mean to start any flame war, but this one is kindda interesting. It's nothing when compare to a trail closure I would imagine. I posted this site on the Ford Explorer off-road forum, obviously people werent too hot about those hippies. Many of them just hate suvs and use the politically correct nobleness of enviriment protection as an excuse to hate them rightfully.

Anyway, here's what they do: they sneak up on trucks in mall parking lot and slap bumper stickers that reads "I'm changing the climate; ask me how" on suvs. And here's the interesting part, they put a pic of Range Rover on the front page crushing the earth..., sigh...

Quite amusing really. How people spend their time.
I notice Robert Lind drives an old 1988 325 BMW, which does less mpg than my Disco !!! This is a man who is a self-employed marketer of natural animal repellents.

Hmmm. I feel threatened now. :)

While I drive one, I do agree with the environmental issues. C'mon, their is nor reason a better, more efficient engine cannot be built into our vehicles. Considering the age of the Buick engines.....

However that isn't to say I wouldn't try and run someone over who tried to place a bumper sticker I didn't ask for on my rig....

Besides, mines dirty all the time...that should exclude most of us.

I hate those tree hugging bastards.:) I glad I only get 10mpg and I drip oil where ever I go.
I would love to know what they drive I'm sure they are not electric cars. They probaly drive those 1970's VW buses that were around before all the emission changes. Man I hope I don't see them putting one of those stickers on my baby thats #3 on my list things you do not F*** with dogs and wife are #'s 1&2. DOWN WITH THE TREE HUGGERS :)

There are some ate-up folks over there, on both sides. I wonder if the sticker folks drive to the mall to do their thing. Waste fuel to get back at people who waste fuel. Sure, I wish I got better gas mileage. But I'm not going to any funerals for family members that got squashed while driving a 50 mpg tin can on wheels. And, not all of us are mindless fools who could care less about the environment. Not all tree huggers are vicious. Like Horness said, its amazing how some people spend their time.

It is best to tag in the affluent suburbs where you will notice the Urban Assault Vechicles are never dirty. I figure people in rural areas are probably using them for a functional purpose and therefore don't tag in these areas.

after reading their website i tend to agree with their politics.

hehe, but I hate to see them tagging the wrong truck.

I wonder how much Disco market segment is made up of soccer moms... The revenue from those sales apparently is important enough that LR have to re-enforce the stereotype by putting a pic in the brochure w/ a Disco II posing by the side of a soccer field. I still don't like their ideal of tagging someone's property to demonize its owner. :)

I downloaded one of their videos - it showed two guys running up to SUVs and sticking them. One even had the woman driver still in it. Lets see them walk up to one of the wheelin groups, and see how successful they are then! I bet I can guess where that roll of stickers would end up then

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By brian k on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 05:37 am: Edit

Too funny! I was 'tagged' about 4 weeks ago with this sticker to my dirty mud covered un-stock rover. They actually had to take the time to clean off part of my bumper to stick the thing on). I actually thought it was kinda humorous so I left it on for a few weeks. But don't worry, the sticker comes off really easy and is more of a 'cling-on' than a real sticker so you and can then apply to the soccer-mom vehicles. I'm in Milwaukee and there are a crap load of those 'penis-supplement' trucks (big-ass V-10 Dodge Rams, Ford 250's, etc.) and nobody finds those offensive. The big 3 sells more of those big trucks than they do SUV's. Oh, those poor brain-washed sheep actually listening to the media.

we produce some possibly harmful gases as well. but should be try and stop farting? farts are composed of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and methane. and we 'pass' between 200 - 2,000 ml/day. me......about 4,000 ml, but that is a different subject. are these folks going to start slapping these stickers on my ass?

LOL, I hear you there GP. I don't think I pass as much as 4000ml/day, but it definitly has a higher partial pressure of methane...the "silent but deadly" variety.

Yes, I was thinking of recycling my farts and dissolving them in gasoline, to add a bit of punch to my rover. Now all I need is a special clean-air sticker that says this. And when the gas prices go up next summer, I'll just go heavy on the garlic, sweet potato, pistachios and onions.

In the media up in Vancouver Canada all I ever here about is suv this and suv that. The gas price went up 12 cent/ltr. the other day and they said it was because of all the suv's people are driving.Somebody asked about howcome the gas prices jump before every long weekend and the gas rep. said it was just a coincidance and had nothing to do with it and then blamed the Americans and there love of suv's . You American Disco drivers are raising the price of my Canadian Disco's gas. (just kidding ).I hate people blaming certain groups for larger problem's.If they could make a 3 or 4 cylinder car that could fit me ,wife and 4 kids dog ,camping gear, mountain bikes, stupid suv hating stickers I would buy one but they don't.I have to addmit that my Disco has only been really off road twice and will probably never go again except for dirt roads but what else can you drive ? Don't say minivan because they suck ass and they don't get much gas milage either. Sorry for the long post but it really upset's me when people blame us truck (suv ) driver's for poluting the air.If I ever catch sombody trying to put a sticker on my truck they would get run over. Isn't that what that big bar infront of my truck is for?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By gp (Garrett) on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 04:16 pm: Edit

yes i wouldn't mind having one proudly displayed on my truck.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By artt on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 04:37 pm: Edit

Don't forget to clean up after you run them over; it can be an enviromental hazard! :)

On their "rules" page, they're probably trying to define a legitimite use for trucks and alike. So people who live in "rural" probably NEED their truck, so it's legite. But urban dwellers who use their trucks hauling trash and ass on-road get tagged. It sure is a waste of gas and a capable truck I agree. But most of the US population live in metropolitan area and use their trucks on-road most of the week. What about those who don't really NEED a truck/suv but bought them for "recreaional purposes"? They do take them off-road..., but do they really NEED the trucks? Those "taggers" will have no guilty conscience labeling all truck owners out there. So I see nothing in their agenda agreeable w/ any of us even if we share a common detestation for "soccer moms".

Btw, whatever they're using for stickers, vinyl, plastic, paper or whatever, they're just creating unneccessory addition of garbage and waste.

Hmmm...stickers....made from plastic and/or vinyl right??? Aren't those compounds derivatives of OIL???? And PBC's (by product of plastic and vinyl production) are one of the most significant contributors to ozone depletion!!! I rank right up there with most folks in my love of nature and wilderness, treading lightly, and minimizing resource usage. But people like these idiots aren't gonna keep people from driving...humans will keep driving their gas powered vehicles until there is no more oil. You gotta love the contradictory nature of these folks...won't wear leather and praise "synthetic leather" (made from oil; production releases PBC's). Let them eat tofu...lol I will be eating steak!

I agree with the environmental thing. Save the planet and all that stuff. I recycle. I carpool. I don't throw my oil in the gutter, but I have to say. If I should have the (mis)fortune to find someone in the act of "tagging " my truck, I'd leave their blood-smeared tag on for a month or so as a warning.

I live in SF Bay Area. I just overheard that two guys who have been doing tagging these stickers got found and faced with the people who got tagged here. Those taged people wantign them to pay for the paint damage because they found the stickers are harmful for the paints. But these tagging guys saying their action is just like putting advertising flyer under your windshield blades, and their stickers are easily removable. Who knows?

I think they should put their aim on the US government to push for deisel engine polocy instead. We all have a purpose for what we drive. who drives car in order to waste oil??

hehe, I visited their "chatroom" again just now; it's still filled w/ endless flame wars(hate to be the moderator on that bbs, does it even have one?). :) It's obvious they just hate big vehicles (van, truck, suv etc) and their owners, nothing more and nothing less.

California apparently have the most followers; there are a number of tagging activity(they call it big game suv taggin) in my area. So if you're in Cal, watch out for all blind spots before backing out! :)

I read a local article on two people that were 'tagging' SUVs in a mall parking lot. The owners of several SUVs in the parking lot caught the 'taggers' and basically beat them to a bloody mess. The article says that the police that came to the seen let the SUV owners go and took the 'taggers' to jail for destruction of private property.
Two days later they had another article stating the case of the incident. The SUV owners pressed charges against the 'taggers' for destruction of property. The 'taggers' tried pressing charges against the owners for assault, but the charges were dismissed by the judge. The court date hasn't come yet for the destruction charges, I am interested to know what comes of this.

My senior year in engineering I had to take one last English course. I walked in, sat down, and listened to the TA tell us with pride about how over the summer she passed her time laying down in front of logging trucks in protest. I would consider myself very environmentally concerned, but I hate being preached to. I couldn't take it anymore. I was the smartass in the back who raised my hand (as to be polite) and asked simply "Was the truck running the entire time you were laying there?" Some of my papers that semester included "Electric Cars: Why people aren't driving them" and "The drop in harmful emissions from internal combustion engines over in recent years." Of course nothing makes me want to light up a cigarette (even though I've never smoked anything - ever) more than those damn "the truth" ads. And yes my favorite song is Asshole by Dennis Leary.

Perhaps we should print retaliation stickers like . . .
"I'm telling other people how they should live their life, ask me why"

Went to this message board, and read all the childish reasons/excuses these people have for justifying their actions. I just love how adults resort to name calling and insults when someone else proves them wrong. True, most SUV drivers out there are driving them because it is trendy to drive one, and/or it makes them feel safer. I don't think that applies to any of us here, as most SUVS aren't even 4 wheel drive and built on a truck chassis anymore. There is some major bitterness towards the "yuppie" mindset, whether these folks are talking on their cellphones, drinking their Starbucks coffee, or driving their SUVs. I believe it all relates to ignorance/self-absorption. Unfortunately, tree huggers aren't gonna change how people think by damaging their property. Kinda like the far right militant Christians intentionally trying to harm/kill doctors who perform abortions. Jeez I need to get off my damn soapbox!! I just can't stand people f*&^ing with my stuff.

The rescue of the five firefighters brought huge applause in a task so grim that many firefighters were frequently in tears as they worked amid the wreckage of the trade center, saying they had never seen anything so horrible. The collapse of two of the world’s tallest structures showered lower Manhattan with steel and glass. Nearly 5,000 people remained missing.
The five had been trapped in a buried SUV. Three of them were able to walk away after the amazing rescue, the disaster command center said
