I've been reading a lot lately about valve trouble. Mostly sticking or stuck valves. My truck is only on it 13,000 mile mark with no trouble...and I would like to keep it that way.
I wanted to know what you (the group) do, or would like to have done, to prevent possible valve trouble. High octane gas, junk you dump in the tank, burn incence and chant...??
What are some of your thought on this matter?
Thanks
Carl

What year is your truck? I understand the biggest percentage of trucks with this problem were from the earlier years, with some even as late as the 99 D1's. I havn't heard of a D2 having this problem, which is not to say it doesn't happen.
I have a 98 and I am careful about running premium gas (Amoco Ultimate is supposed to burn cleaner, but who really knows?) and a detergent every couple thousand miles.
Also, as someone once posted here, "Drive it like you stole it" every once in a while. These motors have to be driven. I have been problem free, knock on wood, and I have just over 70k on my truck.
At any rate, I did buy an extended warranty, for just this type of thing.

p.s. A sacrificial offering to the Rover Gods is always a good idea.

Hey Daniel,
It's a 99 DII, and I do use premium gas. I also try to give it a good work out, and thank's for the advise about the Rover Gods.

Excellent idea. You'll have to ask a few of the veterans here about the ceremonial proceedings, but I think a couple gallons of gas and a book of matches ought to do it.
Insert smiley face...
