On roverconnection.com they are selling fuel filters for $25. I was told you had to replace the entire fuel pump because the filter was built into it. What gives?

There is a pre-filter built into the pump. The normal filter is replacable just like any other filter. I assume its still in the wheel arch since rover would never think to move it from that choice location

There is no external fuel filter on the DIIs.
Bothe the prefilter and filter are part of the fuel pump as well the pressure regulator and sender unit.
If anything goes you need to change the entire assembly.

Sure man, why not. The DII autobox doesn't have a dipstick either. And they left the difflock disconnected. It never ends.

Do you mean no dipstick for the tranny or the engine oil?
Sounds like the dipstick was in an office drawing up the changes for this vehicle. What a damn mess.

Yes, Perrone, imagine my delight when I noticed a coolent leak @ 600 miles the night before I was heading off to Anza Borrego, and was told the entire clamp/hose had to be replaced because "the clamp is now built into/with the hose" ... ah yes ... (I was a very nasty verbal girl that evening)

Un-effin'-believeable. Sorry to all you DII owners but with all this crap, I'll never own one. I wonder if Ford can erase the asinine mistakes BMW has made?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, BMW knows diddly about trucks and prove it every day.

Hey Perrone,
You're starting to sound like a flame thrower
Don't you usually hang out on the Rangie boards? Not that it's not nice to hear from you, glad for your input

No dipstick for the tranny. The dipstickless engine is still a couple of years off

Yes is sad but true.Acrding to the service manual only the deisel DIIs have an external filter with water separator.
I spent an hour following the fuel line to find the filter and finally decided to check the service manual and what I read and saw felt like a bad dream .NO EXTERNAL FUEL FILTER FOR THE GAS v8S.
I even called the service manager to verify immidiately after reading the manul hoping he will tell me thaere is one hidden somewhere outside the fuel tank or at least the prefilter and filter could be replace separate from the pump once you got acces to the pump.
He said the manual was correct and replacing the pump asembly was the only way if the filters were clogged or the sender or the regulator in additin to the pump were to fail.
The idiot that decided that should be hanged upside downto get some blood circulation in his brain.

I almost hate to ask, but anyone have a price on the new filter/pump unit?
And don't feel bad. Took the GF to test drive a Liberty (don't laugh, she wants 33s and lockers!) and I popped the hood on that puppy. I spent 3 minutes looking for the spark plugs and never DID find them. Mind you, I'm preparing to BUILD a new engine for the Rover next summer! What the hell is going ON with the engines today? The "better" the cars get, the more I find myself longing for engines designed 40 years ago.

Motorcar LTD wants 356.00 for the pump/filter. I bet Nathan has them for ~250.00.

Do you guys know if the pump is cooled by the fuel? ie, can you f*@k up you pump if you continually run low on fuel?
As for the "missing" dipstick I found out the hard way. Needed to do a field flush and it was a beeeiatch. I have since bought a D1 tranny fill tube and will retrofit it to my D2 when I have time.
