Yes these are pretty dumb questions but I haven't been able to find answers on my own...
1. Where to get purolator filters. I remeber the post a few months ago linked to that oil filter experiment. It seems the pure one was one of the best. I can only find pureplus premium at the local Fred Meyer, but they don't have our application. I know schuck's only carries Fram and something else, where else could I go. We don't have a pep boys and I'm reluctant to use the NAPA brands not knowing who makes them.
2. How many quarts of oil. Haynes only lists the amount for the 3.9 ltr V8, doesn't talk about the 4.0, are they the same capacity?
3. Does everyone fill up their filter before putting it back on like the Haynes directs?
4. Someone said something about the Ford V8 filters working, is there a cross reference for and filter that works for our rigs?
I guess those are my only questions, sorry so lame, but I'd appreciate the help.

PS- the Penske and Castrol filter books don't even list Land Rover (but now that I think about it I wonder if it would be under Rover...) they had some Lafunza or something like that though that I'd never heard of... weird.

Lynden,
Where are you?
I have seen the purolator brand fuel filter at Meijers stores (of all places). I suppose they would have the oil filter, too. (Sorry, but I can't help w/a part number.)
I did fill my filter up before replacing it and I did not get an oil pressure warning as some have posted about. I think if this happens you have lost the prime in your oil pump. So it wouldn't hurt to fill it up.
If memory serves me correctly the 4.0 takes 5.9 quarts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Hope this helps.

Easy answers:
Purolator filters are available at Discount Auto parts, Pep Boys, and a few other affiliated stores. NAPA Gold filters are an EXCELLENT choice as they are actually WIX filters. They might be better than the Purolators actually, but They are harder for me to get.
The 3.9 and 4.0 are the same internally.
I don't fill up my filter before installing, but some do. If your pump is weak, maybe you should.
You can get cross reference for Purolator filters at www.pureoil.com. Wix has a similar setup on their web page.
Good luck

Ford small block filter is the right one - as does the mopar filter - look up any 70-85 ford with a small block (302) and thats the filter.

I get my Purolators at Advance Auto, but have seen them at Sears, too.
I do refill with the oil before changing the filter, and then fill the new filter before installing.

If you use the long filter it will be 7.0 Qts. I use the K&N 30001. There about 9.00 in most stores.

I do fill the filter before installing it. Never had a problem with my 95 Disco
