I locked my 98 land rover today with the handset, arming the alarm. Then I went back to it later on and the keyless entry doesn't work so I had to use the key to unlock my door. Only my driver door unlocked, none of the others did. Then I went to crank it and it would do nothing...someone please help me out here. Do I just need a new battery? I don't have my other handset with me b/c I am away at college...someone help...thanks!

pop the hood & try the black rubber reset button behind the washer fluid reservoir.

I tried it and it didn't work...I was just thinking my keyless entry battery is dead and since i last used it to arm the alarm, and now I can't use it to disarm it, that's why it won't crank? Help!

in my 1997 there is a light that blinks by the speedo when the alarm is armed.

to lock the door and not arm the alram,

putthe key into the door, turn to the left like you are normally locking it, hold it down for ~7 seconds, when you turn it back to origin al position is sould be locked and alarm not armed (verify buy checking that light on dash).

now. unlock it as normal and see if it will start.

worht a shot... hope it works

That would be the reset button that turns the fuel pump back on after you get into a big wreck. I thought that there was a way to arm and disarm the alarm with the key and not only the key chain.. Hmm... Maybe I'm getting that mixed up with my last car..

I'm betting your Disco Battery is dead or near dead. Usually when you stick the key in the ignition it will turn everything off. Someone asked if your headlights were bright and I would check that first.

Dealer went for the "reset button" first after I had problems with alarm, ECU, & misc Lucas bullshit gremlins. Dealer seems to thing there's some connection bewteen button & alarm system. I have a hard time believing that button is only for turning fuel pump back on after a big wreck - wouldn't there be more important things to do than turn the fuel pump back on? Of course, Dealer also didn't think my steering stabilizer shock had anything to do with steering vibrations...

Hey, thanks all for trying to help! After trying everything I realized that I had let my friend drive it during the day and it had rained and he used the lights and forgot to turn them off...anyway we jumped it and charged her back up..much relief to me...I thought something major was wrong!

I haven't turned the keys over to anyone except the shop that does the "too hard for me" repair work, of course my wife(and I am on pins and needles until she returns safely), and my Dad...who I know will treat "Henry" nicely....hell, he won't even let me keep the Harley.....

That is a serious gidget with the Disco that I noticed right away. WHY don't the lights turn off when you turn the vehicle off???? I thought all cars were pretty much set up that way and was shocked to discover this was not the case on this one. Is there some reasoning behind this that I'm missing? While I'm griping, and I have VERY few gripes, they need a memory set for the automatic seats, too. The goofy cup holder dilemma is easily solved by flipping open the center console and using the cupholders intended for the back seat passengers. Good to give the old rotator cuff a workout. BTW, do people really care that much about cupholders or is this an inside joke among LR owners? I remember a minivan add from years ago when the customer looks in and squeals with delight, "CUPHOLDERS!"
