I've been reading the post regarding the problems with the ARB bumper and Disco II's. I was wondering does this problem also exist on the Disco Series 1 (1996)?

I was planning on buying one (and a WARN 9000 Winch) and installing them myself, but if I have to weld the thing in order to keep it in place, I may reconsider.

Any opinions?

Thanks,

If you continue to read through all the posts, you will see that the problem only affects DII's.

Axel, which ARB bumper do you have, the airbag compatible one or non-airbag version?

Non-airbag compatible. If you do any serious off roading, that's the one you want.

I see. I was planning on buying the Airbag compatible one since it would be driven around town. Any problems with this installation?

Thanks.

Haven't heard of any. The main problem with the Airbag version is the lack of ground clearance off road, and the way the winch mounts. (Too low in my opinion).

Has anyone heard of any problems with the airbag deploying with the non airbag version? If it was just me using the disco, I would take the non-air version without a second thought. But since my wife occasionally drives it too...anyone?

Are there any pictures available of the two versions mounted on the Disco 1 somewhere in the web? I went to the ARB web site and they only have one picture and they don't say which version it is.

How much lower is the airbag version than the non-airbag one? How much ground clearance?

I like the looks of the ARB bull bar and the functionality (brush guard, light, and winch capable) but maybe I have to look for something else that serves the same purpose.

When you off road you should disconnect the air bag power lead anyway. When you look at the fuse panel you will see a yellow plastic surround with a wire plugging into the middle. I belive the wire is green. With the key out of the ignition unplug this wire (you will need a little screwdriver to pry the locking tab to unconnect it). When you start your truck the SRS light might or might not go off (I have a '94 and it did not, but someone else in the group had a '97? and his did). A Land Rover Tech showed me this "trick" and said the air bags would not go off.

I don't know about that.... I have never set my bags off offroad, and I have never heard of them going off, either. They do however go off in a regular crash, airbag compatible bumper or not:

I believe all you do to keep BAR in place is to drill and pin mount to bar or chassis with a long bolt and nut to lock it into place after alignment from fitting.
