As a potential purchaser of a new Series II Disco, I was wondering what problems new owners have experienced.

mitch -

if you watch the threads here - most people are so pleases with their cars, there are no "problems". sure little things here and there - but for the most part they can't stop driving them. i have a 99 series I - 20,000 miles in one year, the only problem was a seeping coolant tank at 17kmi. other than that it has been more reliable then my 97 yiep cherokee. significantly so.

if you do it - you will have the best 4x4xfar - the best money can buy. plus it's safe and sturdy and the most appealing to the eye. and as a bonus i fit means anything to you- it is the only motor car that i know of sold here in the states with a royal warrant.

i would hesitate for a second to recommend a new land rover to a friend. i am already looking forward to my next one.

best of luck
steve

Steve said it best - We purchased a new Disco II in March of this year. VERY happy. Sure, there are always a few minor things with any vehicle you buy, but overall I cannot think of another vehicle on the market today that even comes close. I think it all depends on your needs, and what you are looking for in your new vehicle. What type of features are most important for YOU? :)

'01 Disco2 SE7
very happy we chose the Disco2

We've had the Disco II since Nov and definitely love driving the vehicle, but there have been some irritating 'cosmetic' issues lets say, such as the glove box not fitting properly and coming open all the time, several missing or ill fitting screws on the interior which cause panels rattle a lot and also one whole panel of the leather on the driver's seat is cracking very badly and we've only driven 7500 miles - we have a 5 minute commute. We also have our oil light which occasionally comes on when the engine is idling then goes off again - We're due for the first service now and are curious to see if and how the dealership rectifies these issues.

I totally agree with both Kim and Steve. Mine is '99 Disco II, purchased two years ago. I respect so much how LR Britain have done theiir efforts on designing/engineering their vehicles. I would say they are all fools--because it doesn't seem they make cars for money. they just do their own best to create a best 4x4 in the world no matter how the world see them. I can't think of any 4x4 vehicles in market any comparable with it.

However, it al depends on what you want. If off-road capability is important to you, you'd know what the magazines' reviews and comparison say is nonsense. but if you are one of the majority which only knows horsepower and onroad performance, you'd better go to get a little more study on those magazines.:)

My Disco is a really good, friendly and hard-working horse!!:)

I'll pipe in. Bought my Disco II in Feb. It was used but only with 4K on it. Besides a handful of small issues here and there (things that are fixed under warranty at regular services), my rig has been a dream. Any car maker has a host of problems, unfortuantely LR had some bad press in the past about their vehicle problems. I would think that if your concerned about reliability, take a look at the track record of any auto maker. I guarantee you'll find they have their own 'issues' with every vehicle.

But I will say this, as the others stated, make sure your committed to your LR. OTherwise, it will get jealous and try to break it's relationship with you, or worse. LR's don't like it when your not devoted to them.

Kinda sounds like my dog....

Gotta tell the truth. Have had my Brand new 2001 Disco for about 7 weeks and am not very happy. Have had to have all new rotors, and entirely new windshield installed, repair on the leaky cargo door, repairs to the radio speakers (short), and repairs to the rear sunroof and switches. I have owned Toyotas (2) , Mazdas (2), Nissan (1), Jeep (1), and even a Hyundai (1), all purchased new and not one of them had these kinds of problems. I would love to love my Disco but so far I think it stinks. Sorry to rain on your parade but you asked. I have to say the dealer has been great at fixing everything but at this point I have no faith in the vehicle and wonder what will be next. I am considering a lawsuit under the lemon law if things don't improve.

No Car maker is perfect they all have their bad seeds. Sorry to hear about your. As for the Lemon Law you will have to check your states laws but PA it must be a saftey hassard for three times (all the fine print blah blah) to be considered a Lemon. All the stuff you list they would Laugh at us and say SH!t happens. I hope you get things worked out nothing worse than driving a vehicle that has nit picking problems.

I've only had mine just over a month (A 98 D1), and already I'm hooked.

LR for me from now on.

I'm already looking at doing a refurb on a SII or something similar in the future with my Son as a project and first car. He's only 19 months old!

Horness.

I've had my 2000 Disco II SE with ACE for a year now and have had no problems beyond small interior trim fixes that were performed at regular services and provided no inconvenience to me.

I offroad at least once a month as well so the rig has 'some' use.

We bought our 01 Disco II SE in May and have not had any issues with it so far (about 6500 miles). We've had it off-road several times and it performs flawlessly (even stock!). Only thing I'm dreading is the upcoming 7500 service ($$ - ouch?)

David.
