In my work truck I've used them and they are very well constructed.

ali, i like the bob vila special
now, coudl we add some joists, maybe a few peices of PVC and drywall to make it authentic?

I think we need to custom cut a space for that subwoofer back there, and maybe get rid of that sag in the to shelf

Ali knows how to get the job done w/out spending anything more than needs to be spent. Good stuff.

I have a similar set up to Ali, but two drawers and a little heavier duty top, I used 3/4" plywood. I painted it a nice green and glued a door mat on top that I bought at Home Depot to the top. My dogs still fit in the back and don't hurt the box.

It is screwed into the floor so no flopping around and carrries tools, spares, recovery gear and some camping gear.

I will have my friend take a pic today and post it.

I have been contemplating something very similar.

That box is four years old. The damn dog weighs over 100lbs, so it's getting a little tired. The top lid is 5/8" and hinged. The drawer comes way out but for some things way in the back, it helps to open the lid. The best thing is that my dog can lay down and still look through the rear window. Yes, it's time to build another one!

Ideally an alum is a nice choice here but damn expensive!

Ali, I agree, aluminum is what I am going to build my next on from. I will probably use the 3/4" piece off of this on and then just build an aluminum frame and some similar drawers.

But is works and I built it with things I had in the basement, literally, the rug I glued on top was at the bottom of the basement stairs.

Jeff,

Very nice. Ideally this is a nice height in a Disco but in a RR, I have no headroom. I'm thinking of using the left side(spare tire well) for some additional permanent storage solution.
