I have been looking at 2001 disco's. The dealer demo models (SE fully loaded with <10,000 miles on them are going for about $32,900.

I really don't want all the stuff that comes on an SE. I would rather have a LE (I like the interior) with sunroof and cold weather package. I don't really want SLS or ACE I think its just more stuff thats going to break later.

My question is, does anyone know when the 2002 models will be coming out? I'm thinking I might be able to get a brand new left over 2001 that wasn't sold for about the same price once the 2002's are out.

Maybe I'm just wishfull thinking. It will mainly be a daily driver, but I do plan on doing quite a bit of off road driving.

Thanks for your input.

October is when they'll be out. However I've already seen a few on the lot's at my local dealer.

In the past, LR didn't do much on Year-end closing type stuff. However, if you are not in a hurry, it may be worth your wait. With ford at the helm, I have noticed that they are doing more specials on LR's. Right now they have 3.9% apr on new ones. Do the math and a new one at 3.9 may be cheaper than a used at 7 or 9 or whatever...

the LE has become a rare bird....some dealers may have 1 or 2 left over..but for the most part they are gone and not coming back..LRNA rarely gives tons of money back on end of year rigs, so a 2001 brand new @ 32,900 will be tough if not impossible find. the invoice on the truck is close to $35,000 so you probably wont be able to find for anythign less than that...SLS and ACE are certainly not neccesities, and you are correct in your assumption...unproven technology, unproven reliability in the long run. good luck..:)

As Gil noted, if you want an LE they are getting harder to find. I bought mine in May with 4,500 miles and paid $33,500. It was a service loaner at one of the Atlanta dealerships. There are still a couple of blacks ones on their website.

Mine is now in the body shop from a big crash 6 weeks ago. I'm ready for it to come home, getting tired of the Yukon XL insurance rental.

Mike,

Having just done the dealer dance three weeks ago, I can tell you how I got a good deal. I went to Autobytel, got a quote, seriously considered about a hundred factors (including going out of state to the Autobytel guy who was great), and took the Autobytel quote to a local dealership and let the dealing begin. I was very satisfied I did as well as I could, having gotten quotes at that point from four LR dealerships. I, too, considered a demo or executive car, and in the end I opted for brand new. I was getting bad feelings about not knowing how the car engine was broken in and the price point difference was not compelling enough for me to buy even a little used. It was funny, I went from new to slightly used, back to new again. As I plan to keep it until it's wheels up, I decided being a little anal was o.k. Good luck!

Karen
