Just picked up the Lorax (97 Disco SE) from the dealer where she got a new front drive shaft, brake master cylender and chip upgrade all under warranty. Now the drivers seat won't adjust forward or back. The seat bottom tilt and seat back tilt controls work, but not fore and aft. I checked archives, but had no luck.

Anyone have a tip on cleaning or repairing the controls and how to access them?

The seat switches can be taken apart and cleaned. There are lots of little springs and steel balls inside, and it'll all fall apart when you open it, but if you stare at it for a while it will be obvious how it comes back together. Open it up, clean everything thoroughly with contact cleaner and a rag, and put it back together. The problem is usually dirty contacts inside there. Spraying contact cleaner into the switch without actually opening it will rarely work in the long term.

Steve,

There was a factory recall at some point between 1997 MY and today that required the replacement of a chip in the trucks computer. I noticed a very strong increase in gas mileage on the way home (2 hour trip).

Do you have any more information on the chip upgrade? VINs affected and such? Thanks for the information.

I'm not sure if the Disco switches are the same as the RR switches, but on my RR there are two fuses (for the drivers seat) and two fuses (for the passenger seat) under the driver's seat. They are 30 amp each. After cleaning my switches (for the 3rd time) it turned out to be the fuse. BTW, one fuse controls the forward and backward movement of the seat and the other controls the reclining part (not really "controls" but you know what I mean). Hope this helps.

Good luck.
