AB diff protectors just unboxed, obviously no experience yet. They are quite thick, 1/4 inch by the looks.
If you would like pictures up close drop me a line.

Got a Rovers North. Took a nice hit and didn't leave a dent, real thick too.

Word to the wise...fix a retaining wire or other type of strap to the diff cover and axle housing. Travel enough rough trails and you will find diff guards all along the way.

Red,
Interesting ... diff guards for a DSII have been on my mind ... wondering ... Please excuse my ignorance, can you pontificate on this a little more? It sounds reasonable ... but, (for me, DUH) can you explain it in a little more detail (like you would to a 5 yr. old? LOL - seriously I'll grab Dh or one of his buddies to translate for me, if need be)
Kim
Just joined the Yahoo DSII group finally, MAYBE I'll quit being a pest with redundant questions about CDL, etc.

kim-
apparently the lowest forward facing point of the under carriage of these cars is the front face plate of the front differential. the thickness of this area is 1/16th of an inch. a good whack here and it will break loosing all oil and ruining your day on the trail and most likely dip into you holiday money. by installing a metal guard infront of this - the guard will absorb the impact - not the front diff - allowing you to continue on your trip

Thanks Steve,
believe it or not, I am aware of that, LOL. in fact before I ever hit the dirt (about 3 weeks after purchase) I made sure I knew darn well where the diff was located.
Guess I was tired last night, I just reread Red's post, and I understand clearly what he was saying ... tie a wire/strap to the dern thing, so that when it busts off, you don't lose it! am I right? Now that i think about it , i've heard this mentioned before. What seems to work best, and how do you do it? - I'll go look through some tech sections, any other input from anyone else? Thanks again,
kim

whos got the best deal on these right now?
By Eric on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 12:37 pm: Edit |
197.95 Delivered from @tlantic British for a PAIR.
RN was 145 each. I read in a previous thread that $G was 75, normally 95, each if you mentioned D90.com.

I know the rap on $G, but some of their stuff may be tolerable - Anyone have/had the $G diff protector? How is/did it work? Was thinking about Rovers North bolt-on (i would spray paint it black).
Kim
I am afflicted with "the fever". If I can save $50.00+ by going with $G, I will (... that is almost 1/2 the cost of a Hella 4000, you know!!). I can drive there to pick it up, only question is, how much $ to get it welded on? (It ain't going to be me doing it). Someone said they might do it for me there ...
