I just picked up this month's $200 stack of British Land Rover magazines and was wondering if anyone Stateside has carried out an LPG conversion? I live in the SF Bay area and understand that LPG converted vehicles qualify for use on HOV lanes (carpool) no matter how many are riding. I actually pick up carpoolers every day, so that wouldn't really be a big deal - however, I like the idea of saving the money on gas.

Are there companies on the Left Coast doing conversions, and are there filling stations I might not have noticed selling LPG? I'm keen on the idea of saving 20 - 40% annually in fuel. Being able to refute those environmentalist freaks in a certain part of the East Bay would be nice too!

erik-

i'd email one of the uk companies to see if they have anyone here in the states. another way is to contact local govt or transit companies who have lpg converted vehicles and find out who did theirs. i think even if you did get it done - i would run you about $5000 and fuel stations are few and far between - i only know of one in the entire west l.a. area. but there might be more.

the benefits of lpg is the lower cost of the fuel - but you also loose out on mpg. usually -20-30%. in the uk it would be something to think about as petrol hovers about 90p a litre.....

best of luck

Its becoming very popular over here in the UK. Unleaded is actually hovering at about 80p per litre (76.9p at the supermarkets) whereas LPG or Autogas as the Euros want us to call it is only 39p. You could try http://www.lpgforum.co.uk for contacts.
