I get about 14-15 miles per gallon. Is this normal or can I do something to improve this?

Thanks
Tom

14~15 means you're in good shape. That's pretty much the rated # (13~17mpg).

jeff's right - that's about in the ball park. believe it or not - land rover have done a really good job a blancing fuel economy, off raod ability, ease of use etc. any deviation from this and you will loose on mpg.

even the old trick of pumping up tire pressure will not work. constant throttle seems to be the best advise - when possibel of course! synthetic oil and a k&n won;t help mpg either in anything but a frational way. (i feel that the k&n actaully hurts mpg.) adding a bull bar, lift kits, spot lamps or roof rack with cost you in mpg. i have also found the sunroof in full open at fwy speeds dips into the mpg, so tilt is better.

i've gien up trying to wringout that little extra and now just enjoy driving the car. -the only mod that seems to work are skinnier tires - 205-80-16's or 225-75-16.

An Airforce One Air intake System http://www.roveraccessories.com/airforceone.htm
plus a Borla Cat Back Exhust system http://www.borla.com/automotive/ (select Range Rover / Land Rover) and maybe some headers will increase the horse power but not necessarily the mpg because you end up with a heavier foot wanting to enjoy those extra ponnies.

I've found that employing Gore's fuzzy math when performing my mileage calculations helps quite a bit. Seriously, I'd kill for 14-15! :)

Best advice - do nothing. The truck eats gas - ya' just have to live with it.

Don't go too easy on the throttle either. I took it easy for the first few months after I bought mine and noticed a decrease in performance. After reading the posts here - I just forgot about trying to improve gas mileage. I dont' have a lead foot, but I now stomp on it occasionaly and the truck is responding much better.

I have the airforce 1 intake as well as a Flowmaster tri-flow muffler running dual ends. Sounds great and it actually did help a little bit on the gas mileage, well after the first week where i drove with a "heavy foot" :) 14-15 mpg.. i'd die for that, i only get that mileage on cruise control at 70 mph on the 5.

14-15! I'm complainin' about 30! Oh yeah, I'm in a TDi. AKA a tractor with a body kit.

:)hehe:)

Horness.

I'd give a lot for a TDi now...

...actually not just now. I'd rather have a diesel to begin with. It just makes more sense to me, to use a torquey little diesel in something like a Disco.

As far as gas mileage, I've found that keeping the engine under 2500 rpm makes for better economy. Somewhere around 2250 seems to be ideal. Of course, that translates to about 63 mph, which may not be adequate for some people :)

The solution is to only drive your truck down hill.

or get one of those new Hybrid cars. (gas + electric = never get laid)

I know a lot of guys in the late 70's jacked up the back of their camaro's, it seemed like they got great milage because they were always going down hill just as Rob suggested. Maybe he drove one of those fly rigs. You just need to lower the front and put some 3inch lift springs on the rear. That should get you going way down hill.

As an added bonus your disco will look like a drag racer.
