Where can you get a good deal on a portable GPS unit?

Internet.
But I bought mine from Sports Authority since they had a few there to look at. They are not cheap though. E-Trex was $130 there.

What do you want to do with it? I.E. what features are you looking for?

Thanks,
Mike B.

I know this isn't the cheapest, but I use DeLorme Topo 3 with my laptop. It's the bomb. I'm ordering the USGS dvd rom for my state that has more info for 4 wheeling than I will probably ever use. Very cool stuff. Just for fun, check out the perfect laptop for this setup. I'm trying to talk my boss into "testing" this :)

Thank you for all the suggestions. I checked out the web sites you guys gave me and found plenty of choices. I'm hoping to find a unit so I can follow GPS coordinates off road. It would be nice to have the road mapping system for my laptop as well. Chris, the panasonic unit is the coolest thing I have seen. It's a little too pricey for me at present but I would like to find something similar I can adapt to my laptop. Do you know of anything like that?

Gary

you can find a toughbook on ebay sometimes or buy refurbished ones. You can use it as a touch screen laptop and just put some kind of mount for it up front. That's how I do my laptop now.

I've got the delorme also. The gps receiver that works great is the earthmate. It has a 9 pin serial that will plug into your laptop or even a palm pilot. I use the palm on backpacking trips, and the laptop in the disco. You can get the software and receiver at delorme.com the cheapest.
