My Disco I is coming up for 48,000 miles and I'm looking into servicing. One official LR dealer has given a guide price of £750. They also gave me a copy of their tick sheet. The LR sheet suggests the brake fluid seals should be replaced at this interval, but that price doesn't include it. My other official LR dealer has given a guide price of £1100!! When I asked him about the seals, he said that replacing them "is an absolute no-no". He waits for them to fail, then replaces the whole caliper...

Does anyone get LR to replace the brake seals and flexible hoses at 48,000?

Do LR dealers all sing off different hymn sheets?

I'd love to hear other people's brake serviceing experiences.

does the service come with a nice soft bath robe and a year's membership to a spa? even if those prices were in usd$ it sounds like quite the king's ransom!

i had the full 30k service
engine oil and filter
renew air filter and spark plugs
transmission oil and filter change
renew fluids in all diffs and transfer cases
change grease in swivels (?)
renew coolant and brake fluid
as well as a myriad of checks and such

was $495 - about 330gbs in your monies. also included a very nice hire car for free.

dumb question. Is the oil for transmission and all diffs and transfer cases the same as engine oil? Thanks.

My disco (D1 98R) is up for a 48K service too. I called my local LR dealer (Droitwich, Tel 01905 797777 I think) and they quoted £418 for the service!

I bought the haynes manual and checked their 48K service. All of the work is fairly straight forward, don't know where they got £418 from, let alone £1100 from your dealer!!!

Most of the work is oils and filters.

I plan to spend a couple of hundred on ramps, axle stands etc., and do it myself. First one will be costly (with the tools), but the rest will be cheaper from there on in.

Would not mind a copy of that check sheet from your dealer, I could compare it to the one in Haynes then.

No. The engine uses 5W/30 or 10W/40 or some such oil, the diffs and transfer case use 90wt oil, and the tranny (and power steering) use ATF Dexron III (Oh wait.... do you have a manual or an automatic transmission?? That would then not use ATF, of course).

And no, that's not a dumb question, its better to ask and learn than to not and still not know.....

Yes. ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid. Dexron III.
