Just found out my rear view mirror is leaking today. Looked at RoverConnection.com and the thing list for around $238.00 or so, just can't phantom a rear view mirror costing that much when my 97 Disco was bought for 35k! Nathan Crabtree sells it for a reasonable amount of $187.00 - I guess? Question: any aftermarket rear view mirror suggestions out there. And, did anyone contact Donnelly to see how much it would cost to buy it from them directly?
thanks

you will pay more for the mirror getting one right from donnelly. if you want the stock mirror i would go with nathan. otherwise you can get aftermarkets for about $100. try JC Whitney. i know they sold some, but i doubt they are as good as the stock ones. then again they might? or better yet spend $30 and get a mirror that you have to manually dim.

Why would your rear view mirror leak?

Why would your rear view mirror leak?
Because it is in a rover

Tony,
The electrical auto-dimming feature in the Discovery rear-view mirror is some form of an electrophotaic chemical... thus why there's a little on/off switch at the bottom of the mirror.
When activated, if the ambient light is low but the mirror is struck by bright light, then it chemically dims. When the switch is off, though, there is no current present, and the chemical doesn't cause the dimming.
Unfortunately, this fluid has a tendency to leak out onto your dash and do nasty stuff to it. Bummer!

I used a mirror from a Japanese import since it had the map light feature and mine had the auto dimming feature w/o lights. The wiring was similar in both mirrors. Only thing is when I go into Reverse, both map lights come one!!! Cost was $20 at a junk yard.

also check: www.aaronauto.com/ they have used parts for just about anything and have seen auto dimming mirrors there at times.
ebay has them too from time to time.

or if you want to be really different - go get a small wink mirror and mount it up in the headliner so you can see cars at your 2 o'clock at 4way intersections.

I understand the 97 Disco used a standard mirror which I will check and advise shortly. Mine is also leaking and needs replacement. If you find anything else, would appreciate your advice.
