I have looked over the Magnecor webpage and am interested in the wires, but I am still unclear as the the correct size. What size is best, I see that (for a 4.0 litre V8) they offer 7mm, 8mm, and the KV85 or 8.5mm wires. What do you all recommend?
Thanks in advance for the input!
Chris

I got the 8mm wires and they were still able to fit into the looms (?), i think the 8.5mm are too big for the stock looms. Just my two cents!
By the way, I love the wires themselves!!

I've got the KV8.5 wires - too big to fit in stock looms - but Summit Racing took care of that. I like the extra EMI shielding and the thicker silicone jacket of the KV wires.

make sure to read the Magnecor customer service sucks (it doesn't) thread before you install.
Ron
8mm and they fit in the looms.

After reading those threads, I think that installing the wires myself is a little above my head at this point. I want it done right, so if I take it to the dealer, how many hours of labor should they charge? <1 I hope.

Chris,
Taking it to the dealer IS THE PROBLEM. Thats where mine had it done (I lazed out). Same with Leon. Guess what. A wire popped of because it was not put on right. I ended up having to do it all over myself. You can do it. It is very easy. Just take each wire off ONE at a time and put on the new wire. Squeeze the top of the boot to make sure no air is trapped and make sure they go on all the way. The stock LR wires have crappy boots, which are easy to put on. The magnecors have high quality boots which are hard to get to on right but are way better. Dealer will charge an hour of labor. It should not take you that long if you take you time.
Ron
I promise you can do it. Just do one at a time. Take it off, find the new magnecor one that is the same length and put the new one on.

Thank's Ron,
I think I'll go ahead and do it myself! Since I am pretty much mechanically declined it will be a good learning experience!

Great chris. I am sure you can do it. One last thing that is painfully obvious, make sure your car is cold as the manifolds are hot after driving around.
Good luck
Ron

Go with either the 7mm or 8mm: the 8's fit (barely) with a bit of WD-40 to ease 'em into the looms.
The remarkable thing about the Magnecor's is that the wires are an *exact* replacement for the original wires. Not just close, within an inch or two, but exact. Take one off at a time, find its replacement and then move on to the next.

How much noticeable power difference is there between 7mm and 8mm?

I'm not sure that we can really tell the difference between any 'flavor' of Magnecor...what you can tell is the difference between the Magnecor and the stock wires....
Cheers

What are these "looms"?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The plastic pieces that hold the wires in place so that they do not rest against or touch anything that may be harmful to the plug wires.

I didn't think that I could install the new wires myself, but I did and trust me it was one of the most straight forward mechanical jobs i could ever imagine, just take your time and wait to drink beer until after you get done working on the car...lord knows we've all learned that the hard way...
justin
(just kidding about the beer thing)

Justin -
did you notice the difference on the new wires?

For what it's worth, Magnecor is offering a special price on Rover 7mm and 8mm lead sets including shipping at their web site. Use the address below and go to the "special offers" section.
