If I paint my steering guard black which one is better. flat black or glossy. I hope it wont look awful.

Don't forget to prime it before painting it on your galvanized guard! it'd give it a better bond.:)

I built a custom rear bumper and had to use semi gloss to make it match the rest of the black on the vehicle.

OK, this question is kind of on subject for this thread ... I know it may sound dumb, but I don't know squat about painting parts to go under motor vehicles... Q: What kind of primer, and what kind of paint? I am considering a bolt-on diff guard from Rover's North for the DSII, and it has that just plain galvanized steel look. I was thinking of spray painting it black.

My steering guard is 8mm aluminum from BP. Can I spray it directly with flat black Rustoleum with out a primer.

I just ordered a Roversnorth diff guard for DII last Thursday. I have to wait its availability for two weeks.

In fact, personally I think galvanized finish for underbody protections is kinda cool. :)

Albert,
In reference to your Aluminum steering guard, get some Zinc Chromate primer (Pea green color) and use it first, since it helps in preventing aluminum from corroding. Then use any good paint. You might even use the Nappa extreme duty undercoating; it sets up hard and is extremely tuff and will also fight corrosion.

This is one thing I am familiar with, I have tried every paint.

Kyron EPOXY primer and krylon EPOXY paint. Use gloss the mud comes off easier.

Nothing sticks to Aluminium. You need an etch primer.
