I'm installing some IPF rear worklights on my Disco this weekend and I'm curious how others have run the wires from the switch to the lights themselves. In my case they will be on my Wilderness rack. Any ideas on how I should do this is greatly appreciated.

Solutions I've seen involve running the wiring into the engine bay then up the windshield to the rack

Here is what I did to wire my lights:

There is a fuse box under the hood. I got my power from there. I removed both covers and there was three screws on the front. I tied into the power there. These are only hot when the key is turned on. I used a relay since it is not a good idea to have all of that power running into the cab (hot wires, Lucas design, etc.).

Your wilderness rack is probably not grounded correctly, so you will probably want to run both the hot and the ground to the engine compartment. I ran the wires forward and down the right side A pillar to under the hood. I found long sections of shrink wrap from Home Depot and shrink wrapped the wire where it ran down the A pillar. I drilled very tiny holes in the rubber gasket (Disco 1) and ran zip tires through the holes and around the wire to hold it in place.

I ran the power leads from the relay in through the firewall. There is a big bundle of wires running through the firewall just under your windshield washer resevoir. I ran the wires in through there.

Run the lights for about 15 minutes. Touch the wires periodically to make sure they are not heating up.
