What would be a fair monthly lease price for a basic 2001 SE? Some dealers include as part of the out of pocket - security deposit, CAP RED, CAP RED TAX, 1st Payment. My local tax rate is 8.25%. I know that I can choose to pay the sales tax upfront or have it rolled into the monthly lease price. I want to pay a fair price but don't want to get ripped off. If they're taking off the CAP REDUCTION from the M.S.R.P. and GROSS CAP COST, why do they put in back in as part of the Total Initial Down Payment?

As advertised on TV here in NJ, SD is $399, SE you can get for 499, which is not such a great deal when compared to the SD's initial price. I'm not sure if its worth buying one out of state where its less than 8.25%

you have to pay taxes where you register the car..so, you could buy a car in new hampshire, a state with no sales tax, register it in new york and you still pay 8.25% when you register it. in reality a base SD is closer to $485 after sales and property tax with about 3 grand down, an SE is closer to $550-$600 when all is said and done. you can stretch the term or put more $$ down to lower the payment. for every extra $1000 down, roughly $31 a month comes off the payment.

also right now, the acquistion fee is waived on the SE lease for 01s so dont get boned into paying it...

I'm putting down $426 / month incl tax in NJ for SD. I paid all extras (rack, wrapper, black paint) up front though.

on the l.r. site - the list the sd as $2800 total drive off - $399 a month plus tax - am i missing something here?

yes. you are missing the low miles per year allowed -- probably only 10K.
