Of course everyone knows that we all drive Fords now, right?
Well at first I hated to hear that Ford would have their dirty ford hands on anything that had to do with Land Rover, but lately I have heard some good stuff I guess.
They tell me that Ford really cleaned up the Jaguar, and I hear that they are completely remodeling the L/R plant in England, and washing out all the old dead rats, and 100 year old machines.
So what has anybody else heard, and what are some other opinions of Rover Owners and Enthusiests.
Is it good for Rover or NOT?

i remember in the late 80's, i used to work at a porsche/audi dealer. we used to get used jags. they used to leak oil at the rear main seal, as it was made of rope. apparently there was only one guy at jag who made these rope rear main seals, and when he retired his trainee took over. all the ones he did leak oil until they figured it out.
i don't think they leak oil anymore....

I read that the "new" Land Rover mgmt was offering a prize to the worker who could find the oldest Land Rover emblem.
Look what I just found.

So far, Ford has done good things for LR. Like you mentioned, they up-dated the old, musty Birmingham factory. They also sent all their employees to a LR brainwash place. So they would have pride in what they are building. Ford has done great things for all the car companies they own. Like Jaguar, Astin Martin and Volvo. So they should be able to do the same for LR. One item that would be nice from the Ford parts bin is their axles. Pretty tough stuff actually. I'd also like to see the powerstroke engine in some LR's!!!

Ahh, so it appears BMW has already sold us out to the demon Indi. susp. So much for the guys who were claiming BMW would be better for LR than ford. Hopefully Ford will retain the live axels for other models that are meant to be taken off road. I think its safe to assume most Range Rovers don't make it off road. What are your thoughts.

If I spend 7 large on an SUV, I want to at least be able to say that I can take it off road, cause it is the best, so they should keep solid axel on all three Rovers (Disco, Rangie, and D90). Not many Ferrari owners take their cars to Le Mans or drive 180 mph either, but they buy them cause they know they could if they wanted.
As for the whimpy little Freelander, Ford can do with it what they want!

Okay... what is the oil leaking thing? My rig doesn't leak oil on the floor (knocking on big wood) but it stays moist if underneath, if you will. Why can't the Brits find a material that actually forms a seal between two metal parts? Why are they notorious for leaking. And none of that "British rubber is a lot softer" that one of the guys got from the dealer when asking about the window seals.

My truck lacked normal seepage, I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty by replacing the oil seal; it now leaks oil like a true Land Rover. ...Okay, I dont really own a Rover, yet...
Check out the previous thread, "who own land rover?" I believe Ford will try really hard to convince Land Rover purists that it's a good thing they're running the company now...

In the hunt for a place to get my Disco serivced, I was told by quite a few LR dealers that "if your disco does NOT leak some oil from somewhere, that's a BAD thing".
Mine has a small leak from the rocker cover gasket, and the oil return pipe leaks from the bottom of the manifold (where it would join the turbo).
Sounds like a load of bol.. er, I mean rubbish to me.

The dealer told me "If it doesn't leak oil, YOU DON'T HAVE ANY."

I have a 96 disco that doesn't leak any oil (also knocking on wood). I have the oil changed around every 7-10,000 miles or whenever. Maybe you are changing the oil to soon and it doesn't have time to clot.hehe.
