Not as interesting as spring & suspension philosophy, but something you might need on the road one day. If your bottle jack under the hood was shot like mine was, a good replacement that works better (taller) and cheaper (29.95 @ NAPA) is the NAPA 6 ton bottle jack, p/n 520-1039. It even fits where the stock jack went! I just used it to lift my truck and change rear pads, works great. MTCW

Mine was shot as well, but I removed the seal (a small black rubber one on the side of the jack) and added hydraulic fluid. It has worked fine since and has not leaked.

Does the napa one have a curved top to cradle the axle?

No curved top, but I have never found that to be a problem before on other vehicles with a similar design jack.
