I am planning to attend MAR in a few weeks, and my Series 3 109" that I was planning on taking isn't going to be ready. So, I have decided to take the disco. My problem is that I don't have a front recovery point. Everyone that I talk to says get a JATE ring. Well, I don't want to spend 50 bucks on a ring that I will use only once. I do have a LR Brush bar, is there any way I can make it a suitable recovery point? Also, I will be taking the air dam & end caps off. At the end of the weekend, it MUST return to stock. Blue Gill, don't you wheel' with one on!!?? Any others? What minor mods do ya'll recemend? Any input would be welcomed.

my minor mod to make brush bar work involves a wrench and elbow torque

This was/is an important question for me, too. There is some pretty good info in the archives under "front recovery points/rear recovery points". It is my understanding that (at least with my LR brushbar) you can't really use, or don't really need jate ring(s) with brushbar. the jate rings are really better to use on the frame(?) - 1) How is your brushbar mounted on? - If it's just with those 4 stock bolts, grade 8 MAY work better, maybe not. To try to avoid extreme (ugly, bad!!) rotation or just breaking the whole darn thing, from what I've been told so far, I would rig some kind of a bridle across the 2 points on the bar, then attach tow line in the middle(?) - i.e. use something like a chain with 2 hooks (with a pin so they don't come loose?) or possibly a good tree strap as a bridle to distribute some of the force. I dunno, some that I've queried, have just shook their heads and said "won't work, period". I, too, was wondering again what Bluegill has used and experiences thus far ... By the looks of it, I think he has a different brushbar than me. I also need to trim my front bumper (not that I'm sure it would help that much with the LR brushbar). Good luck, I need help with this too.

Oooops, I didn't see your post, Bluegill. However, I still don't get your post (am I going to have to wait for hubby to translate for me??).

Geez, I better knock off, I just reread my first post ... Regular D rings on the brushbar as opposed to jate rings(?) Sorry, for all the ramble & confusion.

I have the same LR brush bar as Blue Gill and it works OK. Just make sure that you tighten the hell out of the bolts before using it and remind the person that is giving you the strap to try and ease you out not rip your bumper off.
