This originated from Kyle's "Ride Volunteers" posts earlier. JohnC, Len, and myself will be driving to the city (pending traffic and any other circumstances that may arise) on Sunday afternoon/evening to deliver water, food, supplies, etc. to the relief workers. There's 3 of us so far. John had already started asking for donations to bring over there. Dean and the rest of the NJ/PA/CT rover owners, or anyone in D'web, if you want to join, let us know. I will post further details here. I know it's kind of a short notice but if we can pull it, it'll be great! It would be a great tribute to our real heroes!

P.S.: Bin Laden -

Eric,

If you can find anything out about where we could donate and what they might need, let me know. I have to work all day tomorrow, but Sunday we could help out if our help would be a true help and not a hinderance. Fine line sometimes!

Many of the relief organizations have stopped taking donations of perishable foods.

The volunteers really need:

-- Heavy duty air filtration masks.
-- Cases of bottled water.
-- Hard hats.
-- Power Bars or other protein bars.
-- Lip balm.
-- Good leather work gloves.
-- Money (American Red Cross accepts donations)

Yes, I was asking around about what people could to help out the people at the Pentagon and was told that the Red Cross could use donations. I gave them some money today.

Kyle were you able to get any where close to the Pentagon? I was told that they didn't want people going there to and was directed to the Red Cross if I want to be of some help.

I think we got this one, but I am looking for more. Maybe we should consider the people keeping others at bay so the fire fighters can do their job safely. Perhaps a gesture to them that they are not invisible and are apreciated. There are allot of arlington police and VA state police that are there securing the area right now... Something to think about...

John and I were in NYC this afternoon to hand the supplies for the relief workers and I thought I'd share the experience. Well, -it's nothing short of astonishing! It looked like a freaking war zone! For those who are familiar with the city, The West Side Hgwy looked like one of those war scenes from Bosnia. We dropped off our stuff by the Javits Center where Red Cross set up a command post. All kinds of military vehicles and soldiers were present and in full battle gear. Military choppers and occassionally fighter planes hover the skies.

As for the people, everyone is amazing! The officials took the blockade off 14th street and John (and his family) and I (with my wife) were able to walk all the way to Canal Street which is roughly 5 city blocks from ground zero. Well, once there, the atmosphere was eerie (spelling?). It's that kind of feeling that you get when you go to a wake looking at the caskett. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it now. People are looking, talking, crying, praying, etc...

People are gathered in every corner holding vigils and holding signs that simply says "Thank You" to our heroes that constantly work at ground zero scouring the site for victims/survivors.

It's certainly an unforgettable experience and it made us glad and proud to be able to help out in our own little way. The more I think about it, the more I get anxious for that time I turn on the TV and finding out that we dropped the first bomb of retaliation! Osama, were coming to get you!

Side Note: Special thanks to the *Jeep* driving lady that drove 12 hours all the way from Michigan to NYC just to unselfishly dedicate her time to help out in any way she can. She just got there when we met her and immediately, she started to help us unload the supplies from our trucks.

The black building on the left is 1 Liberty Plaza. It has some structural damage. Our parent company has an office their with 200 Employees (Zurich Ins). We wull be housing 35 of them two blocks away (where the pic was taken). The building on the right is Century 21 (store).

It is a war zone.
