OK, so I found a used Disco II 2000 model about a year ago on a local dealer’s lot. Good price on a top quality SUV less than a year old. Since then it has been serviced four times for,
· Radiator leak
· Oil pan leak
· Engine ticking (replaced values)
· Engine ticking (rockers)
· Service Engine Soon light (oxygen sensor)
And now the damn thing is ticking again. So I’m sitting here wondering WTF, are other Disco II owners having problems or did I just get a lemon?

Join the club.. every Disco owner has their very own Lemon. If my Disco was a Toyota. I would know for a fact it should be recalled. But instead I know that I bought a Rover, think of it as if it were a woman .. you know you have a lemon but you are stuck because you made such a commitment up front... You are married cuz. Every Rover is a Lemon. Accept that fact and you will eventually be able to live with yourself for your moment of poor judgement. One day you will actually think that you have a nice vehicle. Whenever you start to think your Rover is nice. Take a close look.. count how many problems it had when you bought it, subtract that number from how many problems it has now and divide that by the number of problems you managed to get fixed and you have the number of Rovers that have been produced that were not lemons. Average is between 10 and 20. let me know your results. BTW, I own a 1996 Disco. Coolest looking vehicle I have ever owned, But I am afraid to drive it. B/C it always has something wrong with it. I would equate a new Rover with a Toyota with about 200K miles. You can expect virtually the same problems from each. I know; I have owned both.
Find me a Rover that is as reliable as a Toyota, and I'll never drive aything else. Until then.. I'll drive my Rover because I love the d**n thing.

What's wrong with my Disco?

I've had it for a year, and no problems to date.

Just servicing costs and diesel every two weeks.

Have a got a Toyota with a Land Rover badge on it???

If you do have a Toyota with a LR badge; you should be able to tell by looking under the rear of the vehicle. If there are no Balls then it is a Toyota! HAHAHA! Just Kidding.

I have a 2001 TD5 with 30,000km on the clock
Apart from a few annoying rattles and squeeks (most of which I fixed myself)I have had no problems so far. I must say being an ex Toyota driver that my Disco comes with one other important feature that was lacking in all my Toyotas, and that was a soul!

my 96 currently has no rear drive shaft (one of many repair projects in progress), and this morning the rear power windows refused to work, then they magically started working again. Find me Lucas and I'll bash his skull with that damn driveshaft.

This Rover is pushing the limits of "customer loyalty". I do expect some "issues" with a complex 4x4 that has been used as a 4x4 for 70+k miles, but I would NOT tolerate this kind of behaviour from a model year 2000!
