My front passenger side window seems to have come off the track. It rolls down a bit cockeyed, and makes a loud popping noise if it goes down further than halfway. Shop wants about a bill to fix it. Anyone ever gotten into the door to do something like this before? Is it worth it?

Sounds like the regulator has gone/going.
Mine wont go up if you lower it too far to get it up you have to pull it by hand and help the motor
part is about $85 from abp

Randall,
I just fixed this. I bought a used door regulator from http://www.motorcarsltd.com/ and it was fairly easy to fix. If you order one I would also order the plastic red "tacks" the hold the door skin to the door b/c they have a tendency to break. Maybe pick up a half dozen as well. If you are handy I say this would take you less then an hour. If you need more info email me.
