On my 97, I have blinkers in the rear bumper. If I want to put on a custom rear bumper w/out lights, it would seem that I would have to remove these. How do I avoid the "quick blink" turn signals like if there is a light out?

Tom,

I have not done this and I am not an electrical engineer, but I have been planning on installing a new bumper and had the same concern. Here is my thought. The quick blink is either caused by an open in the system or an incorrect electrical resitance of the system. Either way a resistor at the end of the wire (cut it as short as you want) should fool the system into thinking a good bulb is still attached. Just measure the resitance of the bulb with a multimeter. Then buy a resitor with the same resistance value, solder it in place of the bulb, and wrap it with shrink wrap. The electrical system should not know the difference between the resistor and the bulb. You can get resistors at any electronics supply place (Radio Shack, Frys, and small Mom & Pop types)

Standard disclaimers apply.....

Would another option to be to just buy the blinker for a 94 or 95? I don't think the bulbs in the bumper blinked those years.

Actually, I think it was the opposite. '94 and '95 only blinked on the bumpers. There were no blinkers in the tail lights.

I recently added '97 lenses to the rear of my '94 (which ONLY had blinkers in the bumper). The added bulbs make the system think that thre's a trailer plugged in and so the little trailer symbol is always blinking along with the regular indicator.

I don't care 'cause (1) folks can see me better now and (2) when I swap that $G rear bumper in I'll be back to "normal" :-)
