(Just for the record I don't own either and plan on buying a disco after I graduate)

That was some very interesting reading...you guys made some very good comments. It only took me about 1 h 15 m to read the whole thing. I used to want a grand cherokee until i discovered (no pun intended) land rover on a family vacation. I guess it was a defender pickup? They obviously don't sell them here. Any way we went an island safari tour in the Caribean and I was hooked. It was only mild off-roading but it was a great time. So to make this technical are Disco's really that easy to work on?? I have mechanical ability just not alot of experience. Can i get by with the manual, tools and some determination. I'd obviously be buying a very used Disco and it would definitely be a daily driver. Any insight would be great! TIA

Yes you can work on them yourself. Get a shop manual and you should be good to go and you always(Hopefully) will have Discoweb:).
Pending when you buy one try to look for 97 and newer. Just do your homework and look into the records for what ever you buy. Good luck

Chuck,

You could buy my '97. It's in great shape with only about 54,000 miles. If you click on my name in the blue letters it will take you to a picture of it! There you will also find my e-mail address. I'll sell it for about $18,000.

Sorry unless you want to straight trade me for my 300ZX...j/k! It'll be a few more years before i get a disco. Otherwise I would just on it.

Since the dealer told me to fix my heating problem with $$$$ figure, I bought a cheap thermostat, a good service manual, getting bathe in orange coolant is funner than dealing with the dealers.

I would recommend the Haynes manual over the LR genuine shop manual. Much easier to read and follow.

Is that thread still going?

Are you looking for a Disco I or II?
