At the end of October I am driving from Illinois to Washington state. Aside from an oil change and making sure the tires/brakes are in good shape, what else should I check or prepare for? Thanks for your info.

I drive from Indiana to Utah once a year. I always make sure I have a small toolkit that has a spark plug socket in it and carry spare plugs. (cheap). Plenty of music to help with the trip!!!

I drive up from VA to Canada every year and I just take along a small tool set. I do change the oil before I go and check all the belts and hoses and such. I also put in a new air cleaner..

i always just do the basics: tranny fluid, engine oil/filter, check air filter, check spark plugs/wires, anti-freeze, check all hoses/belt and clamps for drips and tightness, battery terminals tight and cells full, tire pressure, good wipers and i always carry spare headlights and some jumper cables, along with a good tool box.
and a good bag of hooch doesn't hurt while watching Starsky and Hutch re-runs in the hotel room!!!!

I carry every friggin tool I think I might need and enough spares to do a full service. Jack stands, plus the books I have and any spare parts I have lying around. Tire plugs and an air compressor have helped too. Still the disco will break and be something I can't fix.

I don't think he is going to be abducting people along the way. I mean those midwesterners are decent folk.

I'll be moving to Denver on Oct 16 with a car in tow and my wife driving another car. Hopefully we won't have any problems but just in case, anyone live along I-80 in Iowa and Nebraska? We'll be camping for a night somewhere in Nebraska. Checking into a hotel with a Rotty might be a problem!
Thanks. Please feel freen to email me off list.

Ali:
Do a search on Yahoo or whatever for hotels that take dogs. We found them all over from Atlanta to Denver. Good luck.

Great Idea, thanks.

There are plenty of hotels along 80 in Omaha...I am sure you could find at least a few that would take a dog for a night. My family just moved from there otherwise I would offer you a place.
