I have a 95 Disco with the V8 and about 95k on it. Recently (last couple of weeks) on the freeway when I have less than 1/4 tank of gas I get this shudder. Feels like it looses power for about 1/2 a sec and is perodic. It never quits running, and I don't believe it does it if I have more than 1/4 tank of gas. It only does it when I am at a constant speed. When this happens the tach and the speedo don't move or act eratic.
I have recently replaced the fuel filter, dumped some fuel injector cleaner in, put some engine cleaner in and changed the oil. I changed the plugs and wires about a year ago, so that may be it. I'll check on that tonight.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mine did that. It was the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor)

It was like somebody threw a switch on the power for a 10th of a second. It would only do it above 75mph and sometimes every 20 miles and then nothing for days. The new one was like ~48.00 from Nathan Crabtree and took me about 15 minutes to install.

ive had the exact same problem for a few months now. My truck will sputter and shake like hell for a few seconds in short intervals and the speedometer goes haywire for a second just like you described. Ive never heard of the vss, maybe ill look into that - Dealership said it was a sticky valve and suggested a $2500 ream job---i mean valve job. Instead i put in some BG 44k ...seemed to help a bit.
