Ok, so I ordered the Diff Guards (steel ones) for my '96 Disco from British Atlantic. When I try to install them I noticed that they will not fit because the front one will hit the anti-sway bar and the rear one will hit the front of the gas tank. Did I get the wrong ones or am I missing something?

Has anyone else installed these bad boys on their Disco?

I installed Atlantic British guards the other week, disconnected the left hand side of the front bar and jacked up the rear of vehicle to clear the gas tank.

If you have a good jack you might be able to lift the front enough to clear the rod.

Eric

oh.... I just bought the 48" hi-lift jack, but I have the stock bumpers. Can I use the jack on these bumpers? I also have car ramps, will these help. I could borrow my friend's Fork Lift Jack (similar to this one)

Standard bumpers are not strong enough for jacking. Jack on the diffhousing, or directly on end of the axle, where the front radius arms bolts.
Otto's PANHARD ROD obstructed the easy slip-on of my diffguard, but it's easy to disconnect bolt, slip on diffguard and bolt it, then rebolt panhard rod. Remember to get a new Nyloc nut for the panhard rod bolt.
It didn't look like it gonna fit, but it did no problem - guess you'll experience that as well.

F.J.

I hope you don't intend to get under your truck while it is jacked with a hi-lift. Bad idea.

FJ I just put them on last week, you have to remove the Panhard rod bolt and move it out on the front then put it back on. On the back I didn't have any problem with the gas tank, but I have OME HD on the rear, which may have helped. Remember to get some aircraft wire or something and attach the rear guard to something, so if it falls off it won't end up on the trail or highway.

Excellent advise guys. I just finished installing the guards and the front skid plate. It took me about an hour and a half by myself.

I did have to remove the panhard rod to get the one in the front. I used my friend's fork lift jack to lift the back end to clear the gas tank and install the rear guard.

The skid plate was a bit cumbersome by myself -- used a jack stand and some blocks to hold it in place. But once I got the first screw into the frame and plate (through side rails), it wasn't hard.

About the only thing I hated about the experience was the fact that I was switching between metric and standard tools (13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 3/4" & 9/16"). What are these British people doing with metric bolts & nuts? :P

What was really funny is the long bolt that British Atlantic supplied with the skid plate wasn't the same as the stock bolts -- you think they would try and match up the bolts..... oh well, maybe I am just tired.

Unfortunately the airdam will have to go and so will the front fog lights. But for the time being, I have to leave them in. If I could only buy the ARB Bull Bar right now, but too much money.

Thanks again for the help.

"What are these British people doing with metric bolts & nuts? "

You're wrong FJ - what the heck are they doing with the inch-type bolts?????
They use BSF, UNF, UNC, Metric and then you got the fine threaded as well...
I use metric tools only - with the six-point sockets the difference is neglible.
