Will the Edlebrock timing chain for the Buick 215 still fit my 96 4.0? Did LR change it too much?

I know ECR uses an Edlebrock double roller timing chain setup on the pursiut motors. Maybe they can help. if I can find the correct part numbers ( i know they exist) I'll post them here.

Thanks craig. The Edelbrock set up is ~55.00 and I can't fine a "rover" chain for less that 100.00

still have not found the Edlebrock #'s, but if you were to go that route, you'll need both gears as well. they are double roller versus the stock single. If it helps, I'll offer a factory chain only for $76.00. IF you need the gears at the same time, you're better of going with the Edlebrock equipment. I know someone around here has these part numbers. damn

Isn't the ECR (which is RPI) timing gears based on using the timing cover off the 4.2/3.9? Thus the edelbrock chains would not be compatible with the 4.0/4.6 non dizzy timing cover?

this is the Edlebrock timing set (including gears) that works for 3.9/4.0/4.6 liter distributorless ignition rover motors

Ok- here is the skinny

EDL-7828 will work, only if specified upon order that this is a distrubutorless vehicle. the mount for the upper gear is completely different. also, there is a 'cutout' for the cam sensor in non 'dizzy' vehicles. edlebrock says they can manufacture them this way, but any old edl-7828 will not work in your application. You'll need to contact edlebrock, and have built to your needs. I'd put a factory chain back in and go wheelin.

I have yet to remove the old one. I'm just getting ready to to the 90k service and want to do the chain as well. Summit shows the 7828 for 48.50 and I hope Edelbrock doesn't want an arm and leg for a custom one. Thanks for the info.

Do you have a 3.9? My 3.9 has around 135k and I'm beginning to get nervous. Someone told me once to replace the timing chain and sprockets as a PM. Also there's a nylon gear in there or something? I'm assuming the radiator needs to come out as well as the front ancilliaries for access, right? Guess this is a good time to do the water pump as well!

All I can add for sure is that a 215 chain and gearset worked on my old 3.5 in the Rover sedan.

Hey guys here's the skinny on the timing chains.

In my '90 RR I had the timing gear shatter at 183K. The nylon teeth on the upper timing gear broke and it trashed the entire engine. Unfortunately this was near Teslin, NWT, and I had to have the truck flatbedded 2000 miles to Portland. ($$$$$$)

I had a 4.2 rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted and had a Cloys timing chain/gear set installed. It's a double roller chain and double toothed gear and is substantially stronger than the stock LR piece of crap.

I have photos of the old gear set and the Cloys gear set if anyone wants to check them out.

If you are getting to 150K and haven't changed your gear/chain you are running on borrowed time. Take it from someone who has been there.
