I just got the Moab 2001 Video in the mail. You guys are crazy. I would never do that stuff to my Rover (well, only cause I couldn't afford to fix it afterwards.)
If I was RICH like you guys I would. j/k
Great job guys

How come this ain't on the video?
By Roverine on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 - 06:41 pm: Edit |
Er, um, the first pic was me, testing "Hill Descent Control" ... (we traded drivers really fast for the second)
Haven't yet been to Moab ... Can't wait to purchase the video! I promise to order very soon! Still trying to take care of some extra recovery gear - next paycheck, (soon) FOR SURE!!!!! Good job, guys.

Roverine,
How did you get out of that predicament, and what damage did you suffer? That picture is in the Trails section titled Moab 2001/Hole in the Rock?
That's not in Moab?
p.s. How does one correctly pronounce Moab? Is it like Moe Ab?
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 05:30 am: Edit |
william, RICH?
you don't have to be rich, just time, and good attitude.
By Axel Haakonsen (Axel) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 05:58 am: Edit |
Hole in the Rock trail is not in Moab, it is down in the Four Corners area. We do have some video from that trail as well, but that will most likely be posted as clips in the video section on this site.
And you don't have to be rich to go to Moab, as long as you know your limitations and use some common sense, you will be fine. Except for the blown rear diff (which could have happened anywhere) there were no damage to speak of on this years trip.
By William Turner (Wturner) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 06:04 am: Edit |
I was just kidding about the "rich" stuff. Don't take it personal, I am just a college student with a stupid job and a Rover that I can't afford, so just about every one is rich compared to ME.
Will you be making any more VHS videos any time soon?
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 06:44 am: Edit |
william, i know you were kiddin.
no sweat.
other tapes? ... maybe....
By Roverine on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 08:27 pm: Edit |
William,
That 1st pic' really isn't me ... I was just poking fun at myself when I first tried HDC on our new DSII in Anza Borrego ... and it didn't engage ... because I wasn't in low range (aka, "driver error") ... so I went down the hill a bit faster than 5 MPH

Kyle
By John Lee on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 02:23 pm: Edit |
Yeah, I got some comments. That is one damn good video. Ax did a great job on it. The video quality is superb and everything is professionally done. The action in the video is also better than the action you see in other Land Rover videos. Well worth the cost of the video, and you're supporting DiscoWeb as well, something everyone on this board relies on every day.
Oh yeah, that white D90 in there is bad ass too.

Just ordered mine today!! ... Looking forward to receiving it! Need to relax and enjoy some good video footage ...
...Got a bit weary of the news last week, and actually found an old video that my husband and I had made on a little excursion with friends long ago ... Felt very sentimental as I blew off the dust and loaded it in the VCR ... and the memories came flooding back ... including the 35-40 minutes of blank/dark image with nothing but music and conversation in the cab of truck!! ... (when I had done some taping, and put the lens cap back on the camera and forgot to shut it off - burned up a good portion of all our batteries the first day out on that trip ...)LOL??

The video is great! I got a very good feel for what Moab is like and that whole area from the video. Better than all the pics I've seen and stories combined. Further it show people I talk to on discoweb going over obsticles I've heard about for years in shitty 4X mags with a Disco like the one I have, not some monstronsity on wheels.
Great trip planner if you are thinking about going, or great way to spend the night if you can't go.

The video is killer! where else can you see the best modified discos doing what they do best. And it's great to see the faces of some of the other disco addicts that are on this site every day. Price dosn't matter, ya gotta have it! I was also impressed by the driving techniques. Great drivers not spinning wheels, spotting each other and doing the tick thing. You gotta see it! hurry up and order it! and..... Mine came with a vehicle recovery/repair kit! (disco web sticker) You know your signing up on pay pal now!
Next video... Truckhaven! Mike J.
oh yea, tied back mud flaps? kinda gay!

Glad you guys liked it! For those of you who are wondering, 95% of the footage is digital, shot with a Sony VX2000, then edited using Adobe Premiere. Each video is a first generation copy straight from the digital master.
Don't know where the next one will be made, but we are tossing arond some ideas....

I got the video last night and immediately put it in the VCR and watched it with a bunch of friends. I thought it was awesome. Great camera work!!! The last fifteen minutes (in Prichett Canyon) were really intense. I gotta get a video camera. Outstanding driving be everyone including the stock J**per.

Bill:
As it stands right now, Ho has most of the stickers, and mails them out from LA, while I make the tapes here in New Jersey and send them out from here. Ho doesn't have an inventory of videos, as it makes more sense to just send them out directly from New Jersey.

Hey I'm trying to score me a DV with the firewire connection to the PC. I have a copy of Adobe Premier and want to get into Video Editing as well. I'm looking at a used Sony PC1 for 850, is this a good/decent setup? I'm very impressed with your production by the way. Sorry to be "off-topic" but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Axel- I received the video on Friday; it's awesome! I can't belive how much better that digital footage is. You're also getting pretty fancy with the character (freaks)intros and other production stuff. Going to have to start calling you Francis Ford Haakonsen. "Just go by like you're fighting!"

Feeling a little under the weather today so I didn't go to work. It turned out to be a perfect timing since I received my MOAB 2001 video today in the mail. Yoop-tee-doo!!! Thanks for the quick shipping Axel!!!

Just went out to the mail box,
and what did I see?
Why, a Discoweb video,
awaitin' for me!!
The box was sealed so tightly,
I started to wail ...
but I didn't even complain
when I broke a nail!
... Oh enough of my nonsense! I have only watched 20 minutes or so, and already, all I have to say is: ... SWEET!!!! SWEET SERENITY! It's GREAT! (I really do have to get out more). Now. Sweet God, I must control myself and STAY AWAY from Greg's dremmel (for certain reasons, we're trying to wait 'til after Truckhaven to trim bumper ... well OK, also I would more than likely lop off one of my own limbs). Already so many questions, like tire pressures at "The Wedge", etc. I must go back and watch some more now ...
More later, and thanks!
Kim
Anyone who buys this video will NOT be disapointed!

Axel,
great video guys! i loved when Brian would scrap the poor jeep and hearing everyone laugh.
this may sound stange, but have you tried to pimp some videos out to any off roading magazines? might be able to get some sales off people thinking of a disco, especially with the price of D1's being so low now. and add to the mega Discoweb traffic there already is (more than some porn sites?)
Just a thought...
By Kyle on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 01:58 pm: Edit |
Not trying to "Sell out" Danno. Actually just trying to make things better and better here. I was asking for feed back because you guys/girls are our target market. Axel is doing a damn good job now and it will just get better as money permits. Moab is also not the only show in town. We see quite allot of real estate each year and we get a little tape each time. Its kinda hard to pick and choose pieces here and there to make decent tapes . Our goal is to bring you the best and most realistic tape you can find with a Discovery in it. We are all very happy to see that those who bought it so far are satisfied. Please dont let that stop anyone from giving some critisism as well.

It's just water from my cooler. It's sitting behind the drivers seat, and some water spilled out because of the angle.
Yes, there probably will be another video, but it won't be for a while. We need to get some more footage first. I'm pretty picky about what goes on the final tape...
By brian k on Tuesday, October 02, 2001 - 10:24 am: Edit |
Yeah! Got my copy yesterday. Very impressive, gentlemen! I was totally expecting cheesy, poorly shot, poor quality footage. Axel, you missed your calling in life - great editing. You all did a fine service to Land Rover and the Moab Tourism Council. So far I've watched about 45 minutes of it and this video's far better than the Land Rover sponsered videos I have. I have the La Ruta Maya Expedition, and two of the mid-90's Camel Trophy tapes and your video is FAR better those lame things (After those 3, I vowed NEVER to buy another LR video again!)!! Seriously, you guys should send a copy to LRNA to help remind them of what LR's are about. Absolutely awesome for amature footage.
Kyle, since it looks like you're really looking for a critique - -
Be sure to use more camera angles and change shots more often to prevent eye fatigue. But this requires more editing and would require more than one camera. And add music/narration in the background during some of the segments that don't have a lot of action.
Great job guys!
Brian Kluge
By Ron on Tuesday, October 02, 2001 - 10:36 am: Edit |
I watched it last night too. Very high quality footage. Also kinda neat to see the 110 do so well And John Lee's short bus did not do bad either. And of course all the discos seemed to do fine.
Of course hearing a rental jeep playing the same music I heard in NC was pretty funny. That and the shots of it not making it and the driver (who shall remain nameless) just giving it more gas until it did was funny.
Narration would have been funny/cool too. Also I watched a lot on fast forward as I cannot get used to the rock "crawling" concept, being a fan of the idiot pedal While it won't replace transcanada 92 as my all time favorite it was very well done and as they said better than some of the CT videos. So buy the video and suuport discoweb.
Cheers
Ron
PS I am sure you could put together a decent video with Roverfest/MAR/other stuff footage if you wanted. Some of the things I like to see are muddy trucks, breakage, stupidity
By Kyle on Tuesday, October 02, 2001 - 10:56 am: Edit |
It is shot at multiple angles with multiple cameras. The footage you ended up getting is from three cameras that I know of. Flipping back and forth between the different angles might just kill ax though,,, On that tape we actually played with angles quite allot. In the future they will just get better and better...

True, the footage is from 3 cameras, but probably 90% of it ended up coming from mine, since that was the only raw digital footage. But Brian's points are well taken. There is always room for improvement.

Just got mine today ... great job guys. Nice thing is I can now put faces and trucks to names.
