My daughter managed to remove the cupholder from the dash of my 96 Disco. Can anyone give me any advise on how to put it back in the dash. I did manage to find 2 small gears that seem to fit in each side. Its a puzzle to me. Thanks in advance for any help.

I also have now 2 Discos with same problem. But I'm missing one of the 2 screw type gears that go into the side holes, and I think I could get it back together. Anybody know where one can buy another cupholder? thanks

Guys, you don't even need the gears. The only thing you loose by not using the gears is the nice slow extension of the cupholders as they come out. You will still have the nice "tap" action to get it to come out, but you will have to pull it the rest of the way. No biggie.

Tom,
Thanks for the information. So how do I get the cup holder back in the dash?

Thanks
Joe

Joe,

I did this so long ago that it is hard to remember. If you turn the cupholder over, there is a grove that the skinny metal bar runs in as the holder moves in and out. This is what gives that nice pop-out feature. I just line that thing up right and pushed it in. I did take some force.

Joe--my cupholder came out in my hand when I pulled it into place a few months ago and I noticed it was missing a gear also. To get it back in place, be persistent-just push it back in "gently." Chances are that the fix will be permanent at best; mine is still in, but after cleaning up the spills it does not stay in very well. Good luck...DougC
