Q: As far as front recovery for our Disco2 with the LR brushbar on it: What about the possibility to weld in a receiver hitch up front (like in
between frame horns or somewhere??) I ask this only because it was suggested to me by someone from a recovery gear store when I called to order a 10' chain w/ grab hooks, and 2 D rings. He asked what I would be using it for, and when I explained I wanted to use them as a bridle type set up for front recoveries, he (like everyone else) stressed how wimpy the brushbar is, etc. etc. Said he thought the bridle approach might work in a worst case scenario if it's all we had, but not for regular use. ( ... Yes, someday, we do want to lose the brush bar & replace the bumper.) He said to try welding shops. Again, he doesn't have a Land Rover, but seemed pretty familiar with them. I'm beginning to get a little cross eyed - I have no clue at this point what is feasible and what is not, and what would qualify as damage in terms of the warranty ... it just sounds a bit extreme to me. Any input appreciated. And thanks.

For about the cost of what the dealership will charge you to purchase and install such a beast (some cutting of the front bumper is involved - metal part, not the fiberglass), you can get an ARB bumper from Nathan Crabtree and install it yourself (with a little help from your friends of course!).

This will eliminate the front clearance problems and you will be all set when you decide to go with a winch.

I assume that you know about the front recovery point on all Disco 2s. There is a small plastic tab on your front bumper. Pry it out and there is a recovery point behind there. It's not great, but I've seen it used and it worked just fine.

Just how stuck are you planning to get?

Thanks,
Mike B.

Thanks Mike,

Yeah, I do know about the front recovery point on the Disco2 - problem is, the brushbar covers it (such a smart design)! I was kind of hoping to keep the brushbar until we can replace the bumper (and we'll have to get new springs at the same time) Not planning on getting TOO stuck:) ... but you know, got to have some sort of plan (Murphy's Law & all that). :)

Hey Kim,

I've lost track of the thread with your Disco's stuck pic, but I wanted to ask about it. What the hell happened, and did you take that opportunity to lube the thing whilst it was nose down? (G) I TOLD you the HDC was TOO fast, LOL!

Karen,

As I just posted on the Moab 2001 thread ... that pic' really wasn't me ... I was just poking fun at the first time I "used" HDC -- it was a case of driver error:)

LOL, hey Kim, if you REALLY want to improve driver performance, try hitting both your break and accelerator pedals at the same time! EVERYONE will want to drive with YOU! LOL!

Hmmm...one must ask one's self:
What's worse, the admittedly wimpy stock brushbar possibly moving a bit on a rare front recovery, or the ARB bumper rotating up into your sheet metal when it brushes the ground?

Very good point, Blue. ... As far as your brushbar attachment to frame: (I'm sorry, I can't recall) did you change/upgrade your bolts or reinforce in any way?

Thanks,
Kim
