How do I know if my transmission oil if full or lack of oil. My depth stick has the two holes which are almost at the tip of the stick but no graduation what so ever that says full, cold, hot etc. unlike in some other cars.

check when stone cold, in park, on absolutely level ground, after running through the gears. Oil level should be between the two holes. DO NOT OVERFILL! At operating temp, level should be no more than 19 mm above the upper hole.

The oil in the depth stick is approx 5 inches from the second hole(Cold). Six months ago I changed my transmission fluid at 33,000.I measured the amount of oil that drained and I put it back. 8 to 9 qtrs (overnight drain). I remember that when I got this truck the oil is always at 5 inches from the second hole. Im confused now.

Normal overnight drain is 5.5 to 6 quarts. The entire trans hold only 9.1 liters, and much of that is in the torque converter, which does not drain out. I think your transmission was overfilled when you got it (hence you were able to drain 8 to 9 quarts out of it), and you overfilled it by putting the same amount back in. I recommend you drain it down to the correct level now!

How has the transmission been shifting? A common question on this board is what happens when you overfill it.

If the trans is overfilled by 3 quarts it will shift like crap. Won't want to go out of first gear until 4K+ rpm with light throttle application.

So far it shifts fine. I did not find any difference in shifting from 1st, 2nd etc. I can obviously feel that it shifts probably to 4th at 51 mph.

you are checking oil level with the engine running, correct?

No. The 5 inches im talking about is when I checked stone cold like early in the morning.

Oh, well you have to start it and let it run while you check the oil (first thing in the morning, so you'll know it's cold). Otherwise, the oil won't be pumping through the tranny and it'll read about that far above the second hole.
