Located the source of frustration! The passenger side manifold-to-exhaust down pipe connection has a leak. I can easily access one nut from atop the engine, the other nut, closest to the manifold itself, is another story. Is there a gasket of any type between the manifold and y-pipe? What is the risk of my tightening these two nuts in order to stop the exhaust leak?

Red-
Yes, you can tighten the nuts. However, there are three per flange, and the nuts are on the bottom of the flange. there is a gasket, three studs and three nuts. Careful tightening, the studs are prone to breaking.

yes and no. 4.0/4.6 rr's have a nice setup with factory headers, but we have not sucessfully installed them on a vehicle that came with cast manifolds. clearance issues on the passenger side. D2's still use the same setup as earlier rigs. we weld them up all the time. (although no d2's yet). mine have been done twice in as many years. Which leads to the question-- which one of you guys are going to be the first to build some equal length shorty headers for these things? All of these exhaust mods don't mean squat unless the manifolds will flow as much as the rest of the exhaust. pretty please?

Can I have a muffler shop weld the joint between the manifold and the down pipe?

Red- I would not have them welded together, but you can certainly weld up the cracked portion. thats basically the only fix short of replacement.

Just found a nice crack in my passenger side manifold, has anybody else had this problem???
The LR mech has only seen 2 crack in his lifetime, guess I'm just the lucky number 2.
