Hi guys,

Anyone knows how much for 30k maintenance for Disco II? Any suggestions? I don't know if having LR dealer do it is ideal. Thanks.

He he. I remember last time the question was asked. The answer: "drop your pants and bend over".

Seriously, it is something like $500 or so, I think.

Tom,

Shouldn't you get paid for that?

not sure if it's any use, but the LR Service Schedule is on my page at
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/horness/discoservice.htm

This will tell you what they're up to when they want to charge you a fortune.

My 48K service was meant to be £450 (about $650 USD) from LR. Popped into a local reputable garage (not some oily floor place) and they wanted £95 to do the same. Said they'd go by the schedule provided by LR too, and guarantee the work they've done.

Hope this helps.

go here for all that you need to know and buy for it if you choose to do it yourself.

most of it's pretty easy and a good way to get to know your rover a little better without having to bend over like Tom.

"Using the whole fist there doc?"

Chauchen,

Just had my 30k maintenance done last month. Total cost was $555. If you want, I can list you everything that was done on my Disco.

"Mooooon Riiivvveeerrr"

Chuanchen: It's that kind of cost that made me start doing my own. When I needed new hoses and a belt, I was quoted $500 to $600! I looked up the parts on the web-$189 for everything I needed. How in the hell can you justify $400 to change some hose clamps and add coolant?

I couldn't and it took me all of about an hour and a half.

Yes, that is the thing about the dealership. They will charge you the "chilton manual" rate no matter how long it takes. If a job is quoted at 4 hours and they do it in 10 minutes, you still get charged 4 hours. That is why the 30K service costs so much. They are charging $100/hour to watch fluids drain. PLUS, they are marking up the prices of those fluids big time. I remember when they did me a "favor" and filled my windshield washer fluid. Charge me $4/gallon. Told them to take if off the bill or siphen it back out.

Yeah, the cost.... that's the impresion that I am under. It seems that to let dealer do it versus to do it myself if all the required tools are easy to get.

I'll read the lists that Horness and Garrett kindly provide me after work today. I bet I'll have more questions for it. Thank you folks.

One other consideration, and I'm not advocating one way or the other, many buyers give serious consideration to "All Service done by Land Rover Dealer" when looking at a used vehicle. It may, or may not, make a difference in the resale. That's only important if you are considering trading sometime before the vehicle hits high mileage. Another possible benefit to dealer service, is the potential for them to detect problems before they get too big. The downside of this, is they will also be looking for "chargeable" items, such as wiper blades, brake pads, etc. Fortunately, I purchased a promo package when we bought our '99 D2 that covered all scheduled maintenance during the Warranty period. The end of that period is fast approaching, so I will have to be giving serious consideration to who will be doing Interval Maintenance after Warranty.

Bud, have you seen some of our rigs??? Who would want them after us... only another discowebber! I'm not there yet but mine isn't so nice and shiny anymore, coupled w/ the fact that its too tall now for anyone under 6 ft to get into it (even I can't get into my rig!!) and I realize that my resale value is going down the tube. Not that it's not a nice truck, just not what all the yuppie's want when buying a used Land Rover.
That's not to say everyone is wheelin' their trucks but a lot of us are.

Had mine done about 5 weeks ago. Total out the door was just under $400. They even replaced my radiator while it was in. No hidden costs or parts. I couldn't beleive it.
