Just kind of curious as to an average MPG. Also any mods that would affect your milage (good or bad). I have a stock (for the moment) '98 S1 LSE and I'm getting on average 14mpg daily driving and 16.5 on long trips.

I got 17 highway below 3000' m.s.l. At 5000' m.s.l. and up, I get 15 all around, no matter how hard or soft I drive, and 13 when I buy petrol with MTBE.

About 17mpg on the highway, 15mpg around town, and 12mpg off road with lots of 4WD low range.

About 14 to 15mpg around town and 17 to 18 on the highway, these are in imperial gallons etc.
Whoever reckons a 3.9 can get 26mpg on the highway has got to be dreaming!!

I get 10-11 driving around town and 14 MPG on the highway...but with 87 octane. Should I be using something else?

Yep.....somewhere around 13-14 in town and 16-17 on the highway. I am using 87 octane too. I have a rack with ski attachments, but when you are getting this kind of mileage who is really counting. ('96 Disco 4.0) I recently bought a C130 to follow me around on long trips for some mid-interstate refueling.

actually you should have bought a KC135 or KC10 to refuel you; they are the refueling planes. C130 are nice to parachute from, though.
My Disco is around 11-12 in town has a Brownchurch Rack on top and 225/75 tires. It is about the same mileage as I get from the 2001 Dodge 1500 with 360 ci engine. I cant wait until the gas prices spike this summer in the midwest!!!

Its so low that I can't wait for the oxygenated fuel to go away and I get back to the 14-15mpg Anyone know when that will happen?
Is oxygenated aka MTBE?
By SG on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 - 10:28 am: Edit |
Don't get me started about MTBE....simply a Congressional plot to enrich a few corporate coffers and do nothing for the environment 'cept pollute it. The sooner this vile substance is removed, the better *everyone* ('cept the fat-cats, of course) will be....
Do a search on MTBE and see all the studies/research that pops up...and none of it favorable....
Cheers

I'll side with Sandy on the MTBE issue...
Anyway...
My average is a VERY consistant 16.1 mpg with a typical mix of highway and mid-size-town driving.
On a 4-lane-only trip, I can get as much as 18.6 mpg, but closer to 18.3 mpg is the norm. (I-81 in TN and VA).
My BEST all-time mileage was 22.4 mpg, when I was in a convoy with a half-dozen Series Rovers on the way to the Mid-Atlantic Rally. Whoo-hoo!!!

You get miles to the gallon, I measure gallons to the mile.

Lets put it this way - my daily driver is an F350 4WD with a V10 and 4.10 gears - why you ask - because it gets better gas mileage than my Disco!!

Pretty horrible gas mileage, around 11-12, 10 if the wind is blowing.

for those with taller tires (235/85 or 265/75) and heavy equipment such as winch, roof rack, and sliders,
consider changing to 4.10 gears.
i managed to get about 40 to 50 miles more per tank.
in case you wonder, yes, i did correct for the speedo difference.

My Discovery (V8) averages 22 miles to gallon,
26mpg at a steady 70 mph. Unfortunatley it costs me approx 70 English pounds to fill up .You are really lucky people in the U.S.A
