Earlier today I was doing some wheelin' on canyonish terrain. I hit some bumps, like I always do, so I didn't really pay attention. When I took a break, I decided to check out the car to see if anything was wrong. I went to the back of the truck and saw some sort of fluid leaking out of the shocks(stock Woodheads with ~51,000 miles.) Is this a good or bad thing? My Disco's ride is really really harsh now. Almost to the point where I can't stand driving it. Does this mean that I have to get new shocks?

Yes. While you are at it, UPGRADE (all of them).

Any ecommendations? People seem to be happy with Bilstein 5100 series shocks. I use my disco1 mostly on-road with some off-road(2 times a month maybe.) I also tow and haul stuff. I'm kind of leaning towards Edelbrock IAS shocks. We have had good experiences with this shock on a Tahoe. I don't know anybody that is running them on a Disco(or any LR). The shocks I choose now will eventually be custom extended(like John Lee has on his Defender) when I get new springs. I don't want to go with Woodheads again.

I am running the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my Disco1
I love them for on the road. Off the road they handle good. Much better than stock but If your looking for mostly off road and less on road I would not reccomend them but like you I am about 1-2 times a month offroad. They work great and I really enjoy the ride getting there.

Jim,
Where did you get your Edelbrock shocks? Did the shock really make that big of a difference in handling and bumpy roads?

I'm guessing that my Woodheads were defective. Doesn't Kyle run the stock Woodheads with +150,000 miles. I am also considering OME.

I got them from www.martelbros.com. I did notice that they corner much better less roll. It also makes it feel like a much more stable ride. On washboard roads it reduces the wandering and bumps that you feel. just my experience... I think I remember reading that Kyle does what you stated. But not sure. I also bought them when they had a $40.00 rebate on a set.
