finally installed the new Michelin Cross Terrain 265/70-16 in the minivan. rides nice, quiet and handles well.

from looking at the tread pattern, seems like on the trail, it'll perform better than the XPC, LTX MS or the LTX AT.

Ho,
I was looking at replacing my disco 96 tires with the Michelin 4x4 xpc. Do you think the cross terrain may work better. Very limited off-road, snow and rain in Colorado.

i'll try to post some pics of the tread pattern.
in snow, i believe the cross terrains will do better than the XPCs.

Is there big difference between S and H rating?
I'm asking you since stock XPC are in H rating and crossterrain is in S rating.
Any thoughts???

steve, i've had the BFG ATs long time ago, and i wasn't impressed at all. the new KOs tread aren't that different. so i dont' think they are that big of a deal.
personally, i'd prefer the new michelins.
the new cross terrains has many many littel zig zag sippings that seem to work quite well on the trail.

hmmmmm.....was almost all set on pirelli mt's now i have to rethink- ho? do you know anything about the toyo open country at's. they have these off square tread pattern that is supposed to be the cats pj's.

pirelli MT?
go with MTs.
if you think you gonna get some in-between tire for on and off-road, you won't be happy with neither. either go with some MT, or some road tire like cross terrain.
toyo open AT what? that sound gimmicky to me. :)

so ho-

do you have two sets of rims and tires - one for city one for play? or are you using only one with the xterrains? obviously you went with the smaller size vs/ the 265-70 - was this to achieve a more balanced set up?

thanks
steve

oh no, the cross terrains are for the minivan. :)
sorry if i confused you.
i only have MTs on right now, as i dont' see the need for a "road" set of tires for chickety.

i used to have 2 sets previously, but after changing back and forth twice, i just kept the mudders, and they are still on. :) although they grew taller for some reason...

265/70 on a minivan?!?!? What kind of beast is this van? Like a 15 passenger ecoline?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Ho Chung (Ho) on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 10:16 am: Edit

it's the minivan that dont' got the sliding door.

oh - they really are for a minivan?!? - i thought you were using minvan as a nickname for the disco II.

now i feel better for still wanting mt's..

significantly less confused..

Any info on the Michelin "Syncrone" that is replacing the 4x4 XPC. Our local Michelin wholesaler had 4 255-55-18's. They looked quite a bit different than the XPC's and were stamped "France" which means they are made overseas. Unfortunaely he had no performance info on them, no specs...he even called the central N.A. office and they had very little on it. Whats with the secrecy? I figure I would challenge my Discowebites to accept this mission!

Cross-Terrain's got pretty dull-looking thread pattern... not that mudders' is very amusing, either.

i guess they felt the need for a tire that has a similar sidewall look but cheaper than XPC.

XPC's an excellent road tire. Better than BFG A/T. Speaking of which, why would anyone want a BFG A/T on a Disco? The mudders aren't _that_ noisy, they just barely cover up for the LT230 whine :)
