The other day in a shell gas station, I saw a guy putting regular gasoline (87) into his range rover. Although I don't know what year is that RR, but it looks like it is fairly new. My manual said that I should use premium (91) on my disco2 (2001).

Just wonder why he can use 87 and I have to use 91. Here in San Francisco premium gas cost average of $2.10 per gallon (Shell). I could save a lot if I can use the lower rating gas.

Any insight?

put in what works for your vehicle. i use 87 and haven't had any problems.

dude, if you are worrying about gas prices, you shouldn't be driving an SUV. However, if you would like to save some money on gas, go to your nearest Costco Gas Station and save around $5 to $7 on every fill up of premium fuel. I live in Pleasanton and I go to the one in Livermore. I know there's another one in San Leandro. I am not sure about San Francisco, but there's got to be one close by. You can usually save at least 30 cents per gallon for supreme. One time I saved 45 cents per gallon.
