Hey all,
I stuck today in mud, pretty deep and i still have those crappy stock Goodyears. But anyway i had to call a tow truck, (I don't think my freind's stock jeep can pull 5,000lbs hahaha) and the tow truck pulled me from the stock front recovery point concealed in the front bumper. It held up pretty well but this hook can't take heavy-duty use, can it?

it would be best to get a JATE ring for off-road duties.

Sounds like you have a Disco II. Assuming that you have the rear tow hitch (it is an option on a D2 here in the US), it is more than strong enough to recover your vehicle. When I was stock and got really stuck, I always requested that they pull me out backwards.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Is towing extremely stressful on a vehicle, or not that bad?

Recovery shouldn't be that stressful on the vehicle provided that common sense is used. The recovery vehicle should use the proper tow strap attached to a suitable recovery point on both vehicles. All slack should be removed from the strap, SLOWLY. Don't mash the gas pedal and yank the stuck truck out of the mud with all the power the truck can muster. That is what breaks stuff. Even though your truck may not be able to get itself unstuck, it can help the recovery vehicle. Put it in gear and apply a little gas. If everything is done right, the chances of breaking something or hurting the truck is almost nill. This has worked for me a couple of times.

P.S. If I have said something wrong above, please correct me. If there is something I forgot, please add it. I am no expert, and there may be a better way(Yeah, it's called a winch...I wish I had one...soon :-)). I gotta figure out how to do those smiley faces.
